Highlands 2 Walnut Hills (OH) 0

Recommended Posts

Solid win for the Birds on Tuesday night!  The Birds haven't been beaten since Summit Country Day got them on September 8th, so the Birds are certainly hitting their stride at the right time.

Highlands improves to 10-4-3 on the season, winners of 7 of their last 8, with only a tie with Dixie as a blemish during that stretch.  They host Wyoming (OH) on Thursday and then have Scott on the road on Saturday to end their regular season.

They will play the Breds on October 5th in the 36th District Championship.  Welcome to the 9th Region Tourney!

This was a solid win for the Birds.  Really was a vanilla type of game.  Nothing comical about it.  Ponchak for the last few games has really tighten the screws on his personnel turnstile that he was doing earlier in the season allowing a lot of players to play.

It was a tight 0-0 game at the half pretty evenly possessed game.  The Birds were able to get on the board first in the 2nd half with a nice unselfish pass from Casey Stiles at the top of the box to Gesenhues to finish.  The second goal came from a nice assist from Jack Haggard to Casey Stiles for the finish.

Not a lot of really big threats on the Highlands defensive side.  There was one play that was really cool to watch, Conner Mathis came out to challenge a 50/50 ball with an attacker which made for an interesting no call collision, another WH player tried to shoot without Mathis on his feet but Evan Jones was able to jump high enough in the air to get his head on the ball to pop it straight up, it was in the air long enough for Conner to run back to the goal line to snag the ball coming back down.....close call for the Birds but kept the clean sheet for Mathis!!!
