NKY Top 10, Sep 6th edition

Here you go, moved around some of the puzzle pieces.

1. Notre Dame (7-2-1)

  • Enjoying the week this week at the Lex Cath tournament

2. Simon Kenton (7-2-3)

  • Big jump for the Pioneers after big win over Cooper 3-0, lost a heartbreaker last night at the Lex Cath Tourney.  Will have a big NKY test against the Birds Weds night.

3. Dixie (4-4-2)

  • Kept the game against the Pandas very respectable falling to them just 1-0, first night at Lex Cath tonight against Assumption.

4. Conner (9-3-1)

  • They just keep winning, they are 7-1 since their 1-0 loss against NDA.....keep up the good work

5. Highlands (4-5-2)

  • Nice wins against Brossart and NCC but just couldn't find the back of the net enough or at all against Camp Co and then last night against Dunbar.  Birds just can't put it together yet.  I feel like they are about to make a nice run if they just put the right pieces together.  A HUGE acknowledgement needed for Bella Moreno (Sr) who has stepped in for injured Nat Hingardner in goalkeeping these last 2 weeks.  Bella hasn't been between the pipes in like 6 years and has done a TREMENDOUS job!!! Nat should be back any day now.
  • Big NKY game against SK at the Lex Cath Tourney on Weds.

6. Campbell County (5-2-3)

  • I don't know what it is, did they just get burned out after such a quick start, are there some injuries or what, but they didn't not pass the eye test on Saturday for them to be a Top 5 team.  I realize they tied Highlands but they really didn't put a lot of chances in scoring against them.  They played on their heals a lot.

7. Cooper (6-3-1)

  • Big loss against SK this past week and their schedule is really really weak.....I am not getting fooled again!

8. St. Henry (6-1-1)

  • They blew out Ludlow 10-0, O MY....Big game against Campbell County this week.

9. Brossart (4-3-1)

  • They play Beechwood for the fight for 9th or 10th position

10 Beechwood (6-3-1)

  • After the jump SK made this week the tie they had against them last Monday does make me ponder their positioning.

What’s going on with Highlands girls soccer? Is it due to coaching change? Philosophy? Has the talent leveled off from where it was for a few years? Tough breaks?

Highlands was in the state title conversation for at least 3 straight years. I look at last year’s record and there were many more losses than normal.  This year there’s already 5 losses! I will say it looks like a tough schedule, but that’s nothing new.

RB- that is such a loaded question where I could go down numerous rabbit holes.....for my sanity I am not going to go down some of them at this time.

I will say this:  Yes the schedule is by "Maher Ranking standards" the toughest in KY, yes we have had to deal with some tough breaks.  The individual talent/skill on this team is there.

Frank's silver lining:  other than Natalie Hinegardner (GK) who has been out for the last 2 weeks, and by the way her absence has not kept us from winning any of the 3 games that we have not won in her absence so I am not going to use her as an excuse. The Birds are healthy!!!!  I know some teams have been hit hard with injuries.  My other silver lining point comes from my friends in Park Hills (Cov Cath) last year ended their season 6-8-5.....read that again 6-8-5!  What did they do?  They rattled off 8 straight Post Season wins to make it to the State Finals before losing to Dunbar 2-1.  So for now I am keeping the Faith (even though she graduated last year).

Exciting night of soccer if you are NKY fan!  We have 3 matches tonight with both teams in the Top 10, 1 match with Conner versus a team right outside the Top 10 (Ryle) and then a Boone County Classic with Boone County vs Cooper.

Here is your rundown:

#2 Simon Kenton vs #5 Highlands (Lex Cath Tournament)

#4 Conner at Ryle

#8 St Henry at #6 Campbell County

Boone County at #7 Cooper

#9 Bishop Brossart at #10 Beechwood

As we say in sports, "This is moving day potentially in the Top 10"!

Interesting. Thanks for the rundown Frank!

Here are the results from last night:

Highlands held off Simon Kenton down at the Lex Cath Tourney 2-1.......I might have more details on the game on the Lex Cath Tourney thread later this morning.....

Conner beat up Ryle 5-1

Campbell County and St Henry ended in a tie, 2-2.  Amazing Amanda Schlueter scored both goals for St. Henry

Bishop Brossart and Beechwood both scored just once ending that game in a tie 1-1.

Cooper finally found the back of the net multiple times against their county rival Boone Co, putting double digits against them ending the score at 10-0.

So much for moving day except Simon Kenton's brief stint at #2....couple of steps up and then quickly a couple steps back.

Going to be a crazy finish of the week on who is going to impress me the most to move into that #2 slot.....Dixie?  Conner? Highlands?   If Dixie wins tonight in Lex Cath Tourney, they should be facing Highlands on Saturday, so that would be a great help for me to determine things.  I would love to see that game happen!
