Bowling Green 62 Franklin-Simpson 45 (4th Region Quarterfinals)

Featured Replies

Every other quarter (and then the last half of the 4th) went how I expected this game to go.  Bowling Green came out early, pounced on Franklin, and led by ten after one.  But Franklin slowly reeled them in with some hot three point shooting - and got the advantage of some freebies on a Buttry technical - and had multiple possessions to take the lead at the end of the half before settling in for a 33-32 halftime score.  Then Bowling Green came out and enforced their way again, pushing the lead into double digits and holding the Wildcats to just four points in the fourth quarter.  Franklin made a push again, getting within five points at 50-45 with around 5 minutes left.  If you've seen the final score on this thread, you know that means they never scored again, as Bowling Green notched the final 12 of the game.  Wardlow hit back to back threes to start that run, and that seemed to take everything out of Franklin.

I was impressed Franklin managed to do that well without Andreyas Miller, their leading scorer and lone senior, who broke his hand last month.  Bowling Green's youth responded well to this, got the win under their belt, and frankly have a very favorable matchup on Monday with Clinton County.  Bowling Green won their 15th consecutive game they played in the opening round of region.  They last lost their region tourney opener in 2004, to Monroe County.
