Warren Central 71 Warren East 49 (14th District Semifinals)

Credit to Warren East, they battled in a way they didn't the first two matchups.  And the beginning of the game looked very much like those two earlier meetings.  Warren Central never trailed, but were tied at 2 before going on a 9-0 run.  They led by as many as 12 in the first half, but whereas earlier in the year East simply laid down, they made a push, and got the deficit down to four on two occasions late in the first half, the final at 34-30, with around 30-45 seconds left in the half.  They even forced a turnover to have possession down four, but an offensive foul gave the ball back and Central closed the half with a short floater by Whitney.  That was part of what was ultimately a 14-0 run that basically ended the game.  Central came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, scoring the first 12 points, and by the end of the run, they already had just one fewer point than what it would have taken to win the game right there.

Central scored 71 points despite truly atrocious shooting from the perimeter.  They were 1/16 for the game, with the one coming in the third quarter.  They also only attempted three free throws, hitting two.  But they absolutely destroyed the Raiders in the paint, going 32/44 from two.

This was the final game in District 14 for Warren East, at least until/if somewhere down the line the state redistricts them back in.  They lost the last 21 district semifinals they played in, and that doesn't even count the five years they failed to advance past the quarterfinals.  Incredibly, a team that won 11 district titles in the first 20 seasons they were a school, failed to win another in the subsequent 33 years and went their final 25 years in the district without advancing to region.  I would not be surprised in the least if they make the region tournament in their first year in District 15.
