BluegrassPreps.com 14th Region Post Season Preview

Featured Replies

Just like a blink of an eye, we are already in post season throughout the entire Bluegrass State. Let's see what all transpired the last week and take a look at the upcoming district tournaments.

Perry County Central finished the season on a 5 game win streak and have won 14 of they're final 16 games. Perry County Central defeated both Breathitt County and Hazard in they're final two games of the season.

Breathitt County finishes the season losing 2 of they're final 3 games. Bobcats fell to Perry County Central 67-58, defeated Letcher County Central 80-55 but then got crushed by Evangel Christian in they're final game, senior night for the Bobcats, 87-37.

Cordia finished the season last week going 2-1. Lions defeated Oneida Baptist Institute70-59, fell to Belfry 66-61 then edged out Bryan Station 70-67. Cordia finishes the season having won 6 of they're final 7 games.

Letcher County Central finished the season last week going 2-1. The Cougars defeated both Buckhorn 92-86 in OT and Prestonsburg 74-48 but fell in they're final regular season game to Breathitt County 80-55. Cougars finish the season going 3-4 in they're final 7 games.

The Bulldogs split they're final two games last week, defeating Berea 85-51 but falling to Perry County Central 42-39. Hazard finishes the season winning 3 of they're final 4 games.

After a strong start to the season, Wolfe County has struggled at the seasons end. Wolves have dropped 5 of they're final 9 games, this includes a home 52-48 loss to a Sayre team they beat 75-65 on the same court just 6 days prior. Good news for Wolves and Wolves fans, due to a 3 team district, the Wolves drew the first round bye in the 55th district tournament and will advance to the 55th district championship and the 14th regional tournament.

Engineers finish the season on a two game win streak but have gone 3-3 in they're final 6 games. Good news for the Engineers is they got guard, Kade Benton back from injury who had to sit out 5-6 weeks with a broken wrist.

14th Region District Tournament Previews:

53rd District:

Site: Knott County Central

Semi-Finals: Sunday Feb. 20th: 4:30 PM: Letcher County Central at Knott County Central: Cougars have won both regular season games.

Championship: Thursday Feb. 24th: 7 PM: Letcher County Central/Knott County Central vs. Cordia : Cordia won both games against LCC and split with KCC.

Knott County Central has won it two of the past three years. Cordia has an automatic bid to the championship game and the 14th region tournament.

54th District:

Site: Memorial Gym; Hazard High School

Tues. Feb. 22nd: 7 PM: (1) Perry County Central vs. (4) Leslie County: Perry County Central won both regular season games in convincing fashion.

Wed. Feb. 23rd: 7 PM: (2) Hazard vs. (3) Buckhorn: Hazard won both regular season games in convincing fashion as well.

Fri. Feb. 25th: 7 PM: Championship

Hazard has won it two years in a row. Much like the 55th, it usually is Hazard and Perry for the title.

55th District:

Site: Wolves Den: Wolfe County High School.

Mon. Feb. 21st: 7 PM: Breathitt County vs. Jackson City: Bobcats won both regular season games going away.

Thurs. Feb. 24th: 7 PM: Championship: Breathitt County/Jackson City at Wolfe County: Wolfe County won both games against Jackson city and split with Breathitt County.

Wolfe has won it two years in a row. This district usually is Breathitt and Wolfe. I don't see it changing this time around or anytime in the near future.

56th District:

Site: Lee County High School

Tues. Feb. 22nd: 5:30 PM: (1) Estill County vs. (4) Owsley County: Estill won both regular season games in pretty convincing fashion.

Tues. Feb. 22nd: 8:30 PM: (2) Lee County vs. (3) Powell County: Lee County edged out Powell County in both regular season games.

Thurs. Feb. 24th: 7 PM: Championship.

Estill County has won the district title 2 years in a row and 5 of the past 7 years. With Benton bein back for Estill, they are the favorite but don't count out any one of the other three, especially Lee County in they're own home court.

1) Perry County Central (24-4)

2) Breathitt County (23-7)

3) Hazard (17-9)

4) Wolfe County (17-10)

5) Cordia (13-11)
