Tonight the Holmes Basketball program will be honoring those a part of the rich history of William Grant/Lincoln Grant High School.  They will be taking on the Pendleton County Wildcats.  It's no coincidence that this game will welcome former Holmes player and assistant from the 2009 state champions team, Sam Elsbernd, as he makes his first return to Holmes as head coach of the Wildcats.  Grant produced arguably the most storied player in the history of basketball Tom Thacker.  Tom is the only player in history to win an NCAA Championship (UC Bearcats '61, '62) and an NBA Championship with the Celtics and an ABA championship with the Indiana Pacers.  Tom became the first African American head coach at the University of Cincinnati and led the Lady Bearcats from 1974-1978.  Tom earned his Bachelor and Masters degrees from UC and became a teacher.  William Grant won 9th regional titles in 1958, 1959 and 1961.  The game tonight (2/18) can be seen live on The (859) Sports Radio at 7:30.

As bad as Holmes is, they will win.

Nice write up, thanks, always good to have you all cover the games.
