Notes:

-Logan County is now 0-23, and would have to win two games to avoid the worst season in school history.  That is currently held by the 1988-89 Cougars, who finished 1-24 in the last season under coach Barry Reed.  Even if Logan County pulled out a win, they'd still be looking at a 1-26 record that would still qualify as their worst.  They've lost 29 consecutive games dating back to the previous season.  Hard to believe they were 28-4 just two years ago.

-Franklin-Simpson had a pretty strong week.  First, they wrapped up the #1 seed in the 13th District with a 67-55 win at home against Todd County Central.  That lined them up to play winless Logan County in the first round of district, a team they beat by 32 and 35 during the regular season.  They've essentially punched their ticket for the region tournament.  Then they followed up with their best win of the year, a statement victory over Barren County.  Andreyas Miller poured in 27 during the 61-49 win over our then-#4 team in the region, and those two wins are the primary reason they've moved up to #5 in our ranks this week.  The week ended on a down beat, with a loss to South Warren thanks to a game-winning three pointer by Ty Price with just 5 seconds remaining, but a road loss by a single point in a week where you've played four games is not the worst thing to happen.  They'll be strongly favored in games against Warren East and Glasgow this week, and could very well enter the region tournament in a few weeks on the cusp of a 20-win season.

-Glasgow is another team that looks like they're poised to punch a ticket to the region tournament, as this week provided a preview of their district tournament matchup. Thanks to delays, they played Allen County-Scottsville twice within five days this week, and the two teams already knew they'd be meeting in the 15th District tournament starting the week of 2/21, which will be at Glasgow.  Ironically, Glasgow had a bit of an easier time winning on the road, taking down ACS 68-56 on Tuesday, before holding on for a 53-49 win at home on Saturday.  Glasgow will ultimately play ACS three times in five games when they meet in district, while it will be three times in six games for the Patriots.  What a weird quirk.

-Speaking of weird quirks, three of the four district finished without a tiebreaker needed for any seed, which almost never happens.  Every seed slot had the same district record in the 13th, 15th, and 16th districts.  There were the 6-0 #1 seeds (Franklin-Simpson, Barren County, Clinton County), the 4-2 #2 seeds (Todd County Central, Glasgow, Metcalfe County), the 2-4 #3 seeds (Russellville, Allen County-Scottsville, Cumberland County), and the 0-6 #4 seeds (Logan County, Monroe County, Russell County).  Every higher seeded team swept the teams seeded lower than them.  That would seemingly point to predictable results of teams advancing to the region tournament.  Sure feels like a chalky year.

-The one district excepted from that is the only five-team district - for the last time on that as both the 14th and 16th will have five teams next year.  There are a few things now known for certain in the 14th.  The cleanest is the #4 and #5 seeds.  South Warren will be the #4 seed by virtue of winning their second game against Warren East, providing them the tiebreaker and the right to wear white when #5 seed Warren East meets them on 2/21.  It will be the seventh straight year South Warren will be in the 4/5 game, and the fourth consecutive year they'll play East in it.  Less clean, we know that the only team with a shot at the outright #1 seed is Greenwood.  They sit at 6-1, and could clinch the top seed with a win at Warren Central on Monday, which would lock Bowling Green in as the #2 seed at 6-2, and make Warren Central the #3 seed at 5-3.  If Warren Central wins on Monday, all three teams will be tied at 6-2, the home team winning each matchup among the three, and a coin flip will decide the seeding for the teams.  Not only have the teams not lost a home game to one of the other two this season, none of the teams have lost a home game yet to anyone this season.  Easy way or the hard way, we'll know soon enough.

-That Greenwood/Warren Central matchup is the obvious choice for the game of the week.  I'm also quite interested in Barren County's week.  The loss to Franklin-Simpson was a bit of a surprise to me, as I had them pegged as the one dark horse to upset one of the top 14th District teams in the region tournament.  They'll visit a tough Metcalfe County team on Tuesday before closing their regular season at home with the team that replaced them in the rankings, #4 Clinton County.  Realistically, those are the only games likely to have an impact on the rankings this week, unless something surprising occurs.
