Typical matchup between these two - Central kinda messes around for a while, then jumps out to a lead, then messes around again, and the final result not really indicative of the game.  South came out hot, and got out to a 14-8 lead, fueled by hitting four three pointers.  Central didn't shoot well early, but went on an 11-0 run to take the lead after that.  South scored five straight spanning the first and second quarters before Central hit a 12-0 run to take a lead they'd never relinquish.  The lead swelled as large as 25 at 56-31 late in the third quarter, but then they relaxed, and South used a 13-0 run to get within 12, missing several shots to get even closer.  Central scored 9 in a row after that, and the rest was academic.

South Warren played with good energy, their passing was relatively crisp, and for the most part, they did a good job not turning the ball over in the backcourt against the Dragon press.  Central's strategy was primarily to force South to the edge of the court, then execute a halfcourt trap.  This led to a few easy layups for the Spartans when they broke that, but Central was able to force some turnovers out of that set.  Ty Price led the Spartans with 14, most of that in the first half.  For Central, they were balanced as usual, and this was the first game they had their entire team available this year.  That includes the players who had sat with Covid, the last two of which just came back, and Tayvion Wells, who was playing in just his third game, the two previous coming with the players sitting out with Covid.  Central had five players score between 11 and 14 points, led by Whitney with 14.  That was with second leading scorer Jaiden Lawrence struggling with foul trouble the majority of the night, and only contributing two points. 

So now we turn our attention to the game of games left on the schedule, Warren Central's trip to Greenwood on Friday.  I've been told that their game that was canceled earlier in the year due to Covid IS being rescheduled sometime in February, so this should be the first of two meetings between the two.  If you wipe off the Covid losses, Warren Central is currently 2-1 in district play, while Greenwood is 4-1.  For the Gators, defending their homecourt will be crucial, and if they win on Friday, realistically, the worst they can do is a three way tie for the top seed.  Lose, and that becomes the best they can do, unless Central really stumbles somewhere.  Clarity is finally almost here.
