9th Region Look at Districts

Featured Replies

As we get down to the last couple of weeks of the regular season, and then onto District, Region, and State play, I wanted to give a quick look at how the districts are stacking up.  In several cases the top 2 teams that will be likely to advance are clear, but in some others, there will be some interesting games that will seed districts, and then some very competitive 2/3 match-ups in District Semi-Finals that will end the season of the game's loser.  I don't have reams of information, so apologize in advance for any mistakes that you may find -- I'm sure there be some.

* 33rd District:

Conner is 3-2 and will end up 4-2 (play Boone).  Ryle is 2-1, has Boone twice, so that is 4-1, and then a huge game at home vs Cooper.  Cooper is 2-2, has a Boone game, so 3-2, then that the same game at Ryle.  If Ryle wins out, they are 5-1 and will win the district, which will force Conner and Cooper to play in the 2/3 game, ending one of their seasons.  If Cooper beats Ryle, all 3 will end up 4-2, apparently it then goes to RPI, and best I can tell, that would likely end up with Conner as the 1 and then Cooper and Ryle would play in that 2/3 elimination game in the district semi-finals.  This is certainly the most compelling NKY district to keep an eye on as one of NKY/9th's top 5 teams will be eliminated pre-regional tourney.

*  34th District:

This is one is quite interesting, and aside from Dixie, a lot is to be decided.  That said, Dixie is 0-0 in the district and still plays vs Lloyd, at St. Henry, at Villa, and vs Ludlow.  I think that will leave them 4-0, but nothing in life is for certain.  Ludlow is 2-0 already and still has at Dixie and vs St Henry (whom they beat in the All A).  That Ludlow vs St. Henry game will be very competitive.  St. Henry is 1-0 and has vs Dixie, vs Lloyd, and at Ludlow.  With Lloyd at 0-1 and going to Dixie, vs Villa, and to St. Henry, unless the Juggs upset the Cru in that last game, Lloyd should be baked into the 4th spot.  That will mean Ludlow and St. Henry will be the 2/3 seeds, and their district semi-finals will end one of their seasons.  Still much to be decided however,

*  35th District:

Notre Dame has gone 3-0 and locked up the 1 seed.  Likewise, Beechwood has gone 0-3 and locked up the 4 seed, meaning they'll get Notre Dame in the district semi-finals.  Holy Cross and Holmes play next week, one will end up 2-1 (likely the Indians) and one 1-2 (probably the Bulldogs), but they'll be the 2 and 3 seeds and will play in the district semi-finals.  This district is likely to be NDA and Holy Cross to the 9th Region tourney for the foreseeable future, given Notre Dame's pool of players and what Holy Cross has in the funnel in terms of young players (FROSH team is very good, led by a couple of 7th graders, and their JV team is something and 1 [meaning "X" amount of wins vs only 1 loss {to Notre Dame}]).

*  36th District:

Now this one has a LOT to settle in the next couple of weeks.  Excusing Dayton, who I don't believe even plays NewCath and Highlands (please correct me if I have that wrong), you are still left with 4 teams that will have a lot to settle.  NewCath is 1-0 and has at Bellevue and vs Newport (plus Dayton forfeit win, I assume).  Newport is 0-0 and has at Dayton, at Bellevue, at NewCath, and at Highlands.  Yes, all 4 of Newport's district games are on the road -- don't know how that would happen, but it is what it is.  Bellevue is 0-0 and is vs NewCath, vs Newport, vs Highlands, and at Dayton.   Highlands is 0-1 (COVID loss to NewCath), and is at Bellevue, vs Newport and then I assume the forfeit win vs Dayton.  A ton can happen, I'm going to assume Bellevue ends up as the 4th seed and will play NewCath in the first round.  That will leave Newport and Highlands to play in 2/3 game for a ticket to the 9th Region tourney.

Hope this helps and is mostly accurate.  Going to be a fun couple of weeks in the 9th leading up to the Districts and 9th Region Tournament.

As we discussed above, Ryle winning last night gives them the easy road to the top seed in the district.

That means Cooper and Conner, in girls hoops like boys soccer, will be Top 5 NKY teams and play an elimination game in the 33rd District Semi-finals.
