Notes:

-This was a particularly full week with both on the court results and off the court rulings.  The ranking was not easy to make or justify this time.

-There's no way to have clarity among the top 3 teams now.  No one is undefeated in the region, no one is undefeated in the head to head matchups.  Bowling Green has now split with both Warren Central and Greenwood, with the home team winning each.  Warren Central and Greenwood meet on the court for the first time this Friday, so no clarity there.  Warren Central was without three of their top eight rotation against Bowling Green due to Covid protocols, making that a bit murky to compare to the full strength 22 point beatdown two weeks prior.  Greenwood got a one point win three days later, knocking off the Purples despite star Cade Stinnett going down with an ankle/foot injury midway through the first quarter.  It was impressive for them to get the win without Stinnett, but he is also expected to miss some time, including the aforementioned Warren Central game (unless things are much less serious than they appeared on Friday).  All of that leaves me feeling very much like a pair of referees looking at each on an out of bounds play with no idea who the ball went off of.  What do they do? They just call for a jump ball.  The analogy plays here in that I'm simply going to leave the three teams in the same spot.  Some of that is because I genuinely believe Warren Central to be the best team among the three.  Some of that is because I have absolutely no one I can put at #1 and it be unimpeachable.  I'd likely move Greenwood up to the top if Stinnett hadn't gone down - if they win Friday then they go to the top without a doubt. 

-Franklin-Simpson got a critical district win, knocking off Russellville in overtime.  Franklin led most of the, night, but never comfortably, before Russellville forced the extra session at 64 all.  But Franklin-Simpson went off in OT, outscoring the Panthers 12-2 in the extra session. In a district where Logan County appears poised to potentially go winless overall and definitely in district play, the #1 seed will be critical, and Franklin just took a big step towards that with a road win.  They meet Todd County Central this week in another road game.  If the Wildcats can win there, they'll really have a stranglehold.

-It will be interesting to see how things play out with Covid cancellations in the 15th District.  Barren County found themselves on the wrong side of one in having to cancel a game with Allen County-Scottsville this week, but that game has already gotten rescheduled for Saturday, which wipes the forfeit away.  However, they have district games scheduled for the next two days, both in-district.  Will they manage to get those in and not have to cancel/postpone? Who will they not have available for those contests? Barren is far and away the best team in the 15th District, but will shenanigans knock them out of the 1 spot?

-Speaking of the 15th District, they were at the center of the big off the court news. A few months ago, news broke that Monroe County had petitioned to return to the 16th District, where they and their forerunners Tompkinsville and Gamaliel had played for decades prior to 2005.  When that major realignment came about in 2005, Metcalfe County was originally intended to go to the 15th from the 16th, but Monroe County stepped in and asked to go instead.  In the 16 years since, they'd had time to rethink their position, as they were much less competitive in the 15th District in some sports.  The KHSAA usually tells programs to take a long walk off a short pier when it comes to that type of request, but a variable was introduced - Foundation Christian Academy.  The private school in Bowling Green has gone through the transitional process and is set to join region play in 2022-23.  They had requested to play in the 13th District so as to avoid a six-team 14th District, and to stay out of the crosshairs of programs they could not hope to compete with.  Suddenly, there was the potential of a too-large 14th to deal with, and a surplus team available to move to the 15th if Monroe was moved out.  And that is why, despite receiving a letter from the entirety of the 16th District petitioning for Monroe County's request to be (rightfully) denied on the basis that competitive desires are not a reason to redistrict, Monroe County will move into the 16th District and create a five team 16th for the first time since the consolidation of Monroe County in 1984.  Furthermore, instead of what some would see as the logical choice of slotting FCA into the 15th to fill the gap, it is Warren East who will be moving over.  There is geographical logic in the move.  Despite the fact they will have to drive past Greenwood to get to Allen County-Scottsville (unless they go REAL out of the way), Warren East is closer to both Barren County and Glasgow as compared to FCA (or Greenwood if you want to get at the heart of the team that may potentially be best placed).  The move is a godsend to Warren East, giving them the advantages of a team based in the largest population center in the region, but one who doesn't have to go through the other Bowling Green schools.  The boys and girls programs in basketball have fallen on very rough times, and this should put them in a much better place to compete, particularly the boys.  East goes from playing in a district where they have a losing record against every single program and they have not won a district semifinal in since 1997, to one in which they have a 55% win percentage and a winning record against the programs with the exception of Barren County, who they are 21-22 against.  In soccer, they should find some potential for success compared to the 14th District where they've always been 5th or 4th best.  In softball and baseball, they will emerge as the dominant program.  This is great news for the Raiders.  I hate it as a historian - schools like Riverside, Oakland, and Smith's Grove played with the other Bowling Green schools in the 8th District back in 1927.  The Warren East forerunners have always been with these schools in the area, and that ends as of roughly 4-5 monhts from now.  The news is really bad for Foundation Christian Academy.  They would likely not have fared well in any district they could join, but joining the 14th is a death sentence.  Private schools have competed in the 14th District before.  St. Joseph's participated back in the late 50s and early 60s, and Potter Christian competed sporadically from 1979 through 1987.  Neither ever won a single postseason game and frequently lost by 30 and 40 points (or more).  It is not an ideal placement for a fledgling school.

Congrats to Greenwood, as it shows alot of guts to be able to lose your leader early and continue to play and come out with a very hard fought win.  For BG, sometimes the ball goes in (Pikeville) and sometimes it doesn't (last shot of the game could have gone in, but didn't).  That's just basketball.  Hoping the young team can learn from the difficult loss.

Keeping up with Todd County Central, must have been a really tough game they lost in OT to Trigg.  Oh well.

When you mention Riverside, Oakland and Smith's Grove (and there were others I think back at that time like Bristow (spelling?) and others in the mix) brings back a smile as I have family that lives in that area and those names are still spoken about.

I'm happy for Warren East; just not in a good spot right.  But a horrible spot for the new school, not sure that is best and I can see them petitioning KHSAA to get out of that in a year or 2.
