NKY Girls Basketball Top 10 -- Week 6

Featured Replies

A pretty good week on the hardwood for NKY teams, and some things became clearer (like Holy Cross over NewCath), and some things burst into our attention span (like Conner comfortably over Cooper).  The bottom of the "others to watch" is getting more and more difficult, but I want to try and make sure that teams get some deserved recognition after grabbing a win or two over a team above them.  For our Top 10, the really hard part for me this week was Ludlow and NewCath, and having watched them both this week, I settled on Ludlow above them -- but I'm not super confident about it.  Rylee and Jenna would be fun to watch, and sadly they don't play on the court this year, so for now, I'm left with the game with Holy Cross to compare for both, and I felt like Ludlow played them better, so I put them above NewCath.  Certainly, and admittedly, could have gone either way, and if they played tomorrow, I wouldn't be confident that either side would beat the other.  Here we go:

1.  Notre Dame (10-1):  vs Mercy, vs #5 Cooper, at Male

2.  Ryle (11-4):  at Manual, vs Kentucky's Top Team Sacred Heart (at Ryle, on the 14th, at 7:00), at Walton Verona

3.  Dixie (12-2):  at East Central (IN), at Campbell County, vs Boyd County

4.  Conner (11-3):  at #10 Simon Kenton, at Boone County, vs #7 Ludlow

5.  Cooper (8-6):  vs Campbell County, at #1 Notre Dame

6.  Holy Cross (10-6):  at Grant County, at Walton Verona, vs Manual (at GRC)

7.  Ludlow (12-4):  at Bellevue, vs Lloyd, at #4 Conner

8.  NewCath (11-5):  vs St Henry, vs Highlands

9.  Bishop Brossart (9-4):  vs Bracken County (10th Region All A Semis), "likely" 10th Region All A Finals, vs Ashland (at GRC)

10.  Simon Kenton (8-7):  at Holmes, vs #4 Conner, vs Assumption

Others to watch:

*  Scott (8-7)

*  Highlands (5-7)

*  Campbell County (5-7)

*  St Henry (8-6)

*  Walton Verona (9-7)

*  Lloyd (6-6)

*  Beechwood (8-10)

*  Williamstown (7-5)

*  Newport (8-3)

*  Grant County (6-9)

I would assume you would include Pendleton County among the northern Ky. schools . If so, you may be overlooking a decent team with wins over Scott, Boone Co .,Grant County and Williamstown and close losses to Beechwood, Bellevue,  and Lloyd.

An unfortunate and big loss happened to NDA outside the boxscore.  Sad to say, SR Jillian McNight, had surgery to repair a torn ACL this week.  This obviously stinks, as we've seen this injury too often to our female athletes, and best wishes on recovery to a great kid.  Jillian is a multi year starter, and 3 pt specialist for the Pandas.  Her ability to impact a game will be missed (see her 6 3 pointers vs. Ryle last year semi-finals).  If any team can overcome this, it could be NDA, but this is a significant loss.

For sure, that stinks, especially as a senior, I'm so sorry to hear this.   You're right, female athletes and ACL's has become, unfortunately, all too common.  Thanks for sharing the unfortunate news, Big Red.
