North Oldham 2 Manual 1 (Round of 16 in the State Tournament)

Featured Replies

In what was, predictably, the game of the night in Kentucky, this one didn't disappoint.  North Oldham, the state's top team, jumped on top of 1-0, but then saw the Crimsons draw even at 1-1, and stay there the rest of the night.  Both teams had great chances in the last 6 minutes of furious play, especially the Mustangs who had 2 GREAT looks at goal in the last 4 minutes, but both teams managed to subdue the others and they headed to OT.  Neither OT period were enough, so this incredible round of 16 game was going to be decided from the spot.  Leading 4-3 going to the 5th Round, Manual needed only a stop or a goal to move on, but after North's PK taker slotted his home (drawing even at 4-4), N.O.'s outstanding keeper, Sharan Dodwani, made a huge save to keep the Mustangs' season alive.  Both teams notched their next PK, so they moved to the 7th round at 5-5.  N.O. made their attempt to go up 6-5, and then once again, as if on cue, Dodwani made a huge save and the Mustangs survived and advanced to the Elite 8!  There is no rest for the weary, however, as North Oldham will have a quick turn-around as they host Top 5 Daviess County on Thursday night at 7:00.  What an amazing game, two terrific teams, a great atmosphere, and as much drama as you could stomach.  Well done to both teams!

The Crimsons, champions of the brutal 7th Region, end their season 16-3-2, with their only in-state losses coming, ironically, to South and North Oldham.  That means, in the incredibly tough 7th Region, Manual went unbeaten at 11-0-2.  A huge congrats to Coach Taylor Wood and his young men.  When the pain of this one subsides, you'll look back on so much good this year that you'll remember for a lifetime.  Well done, Manual.

Great report @The Double Deuce!  I didn't get to make this game but am glad to have a real report of what went on!

Congrats to North, as they are clearly a very fine team.  And congrats to my Crimsons who just kept battling!  I'm sure they are disappointed, but sounds like they left it all on the field.  And that's all you can do!  Great season!
