Big UK football guy here. I was watching the game this past weekend and they were talking about Coach Schlarman. Do y’all remember him coaching at Newport? I wonder if his heart wasn’t pulled to College Football where the  Newport program would be at today? I think it would be a completely different story down in Newport.

He also was head coach at Campbell County. Was at Baylor, Troy(Alabama), before coming back to KY. Newport is a tough gig. John would have done a fine job but HS football is cyclic depending on players. I really feel the Good Lord put him on the path he was on for many reasons. John left us too early, and not too long after his passing we lost his dad Bill a truly great man and friend. The Schlarmans are great folks and a great family. First met John when he was 14. Will always remember his great smile, his stops at practice while on a recruiting visit, and his presence at our biggest games. Rest in peace big guy. I know you and big Bill are enjoying this season!
