Hopkinsville JR Stud Daisjaun Mercer had a 65 yard TD Run, 50 yard TD catch, and a 37 yard pick 6 to lead Hoptown to the victory without starting QB Tre Jefferson, who may or may not be back. 
 

Caldwell was feisty throughout and it was a sloppy but solid football game. Hopkinsville travels to Bowling Green next Friday and Caldwell will play Crittenden. 

Caldwell is still a competitive program but I feel like the Caldwell teams of past decade would have faired better against this Hoptown team, is that reasonable to assume?

Yes. Although I still think this Hopkinsville team, once they get some issues ironed out, will be a really good football team.
