Newport's Sneed gives up basketball

Newport standout senior guard Tamara Sneed has left the basketball team, Newport athletic director Clyde Stafford said Friday night.

Stafford said he didn't have any further details but said he received word of Sneed's departure through an e-mail from Newport principal Scott Draud early this week.

 

"She definitely quit the team," Stafford said. "She definitely doesn't want to play any more basketball."

What a real shame.... Great player, one of a kind talent, could have played D1 College Basketball somewhere.... You just wonder what went wrong.... this is just sad to read....

Sad to see such a talent leave the game but it happens.

Disappointing -- sure, but if the kid doesn't want to play anymore let it go. Who knows -- maybe it was a personal issue or grades or just being lazy. Whatever reason -- it's her business. Could she have played D1? Maybe. I guess we'll never know. So to Ms. Sneed -- thanks for some great basketball at Newport and I wish you the best. Good luck with your future.
