I grew up about a block away from the Epplen family. Saw them in mass at Blessed Sacrament Church most every Sunday of my childhood. Mike...well...the entire family, they are all absolute salt of the earth. And I think you'd be hard pressed to find many households in Kenton, Campbell or Boone County that haven't ever had had a family member play in a baseball game that had an Epplen either on one of the teams, coaching one of the teams, or officiating the game. Mike Epplen was such a good good good guy. The world was a better place with him in it.
