WOW--Just looked at their schedule and it's really pathetic for a good, large school program!! Good news is they'll win 20+ by accident, if that's what you're after??

What constitutes a great coach? 20 win seasons or Championships? Not trying to start anything by any means. I'm am just curious in the point of view. Credible arguments could be made for both. Montgomery Co. just has 20 win seasons with a lonesome Regional Title in 95'.

 

Good point. The best point for his being a good coach could be the fact the Montgomey Co had VERY little basketball tradition prior to his arrival in "87. Since then, they have at least been a player in the 10th almost every year. The case could be made that many of the wins have been against teams they should have beaten soundly. In addition, he drew opposite GRC in the district every year but twice over the course of 18 years or so and advanced to the region each time until Estill snapped that streak in 2000 or 2001. He did however, win the district a several times in that span knocking off Clark in the finals some of those were upsets. One thing to note; the enrollment at MC has increasing at a furious rate in the last 20 years, at least compared to other schools east of I75.

 

I'm not one to laude the praises of every coach in the state for everything they do, I see a whole lot of that on this website, but I think he has had a very solid coaching career and has stayed in one place for a long time which is often uncommon for succesful coaches. It's hard to be a high school coach in one place like that. You make too many enemies after a while.

 

The question still remains; If I am a coach at a small school with drastic talent fluctuations, why would I choose to play MC each year unless they were 10 minutes away. It seems that these same schools play them each year regardless of the talent difference. Do they get compenstion?
