GOREDDEVILS Posted March 28, 2021 Author Posted March 28, 2021 There was several times Russell had wide open layups/ looks but decided to Keep trying to run the clock. I'm assuming it was because Russell already had such a big lead.
GOREDDEVILS Posted March 28, 2021 Author Posted March 28, 2021 Congratulations to all the girls who made the All Tournament team.
DevilMayCare Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Another impressive showing against Boyd County for Russell's girls under the bright lights of Ellis T. Johnson Arena. The confidence level of girl's basketball at Russell is at an all-time high, as it should be. Coach Layne has done an incredible job elevating the program in recent years. Russell's very fortunate to have her. Boyd's girls are similar to Ashland's boys. When the 3s are falling, they can compete with, and beat, almost anyone in the state. The shots weren't falling tonight, and Russell's a team equipped to handle the big stage against a top 5 caliber team, proving in the process that they're a top 5 caliber team themselves. Best wishes at state. This team could make a lot of noise. 1
DevilMayCare Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Shaelyn Steele is a problem for opposing teams. Already a great, accomplished varsity player, and still just a freshman. Very high ceiling for that young lady. Her 23 points tonight sealed the tournament MVP.

Bella Quinn, a freshman, was especially impressive in that regard.
GOREDDEVILS Posted March 28, 2021 Author Posted March 28, 2021 Our 7th Grade team also won the ovc large school tournament. There is more talent coming for sure.
GOREDDEVILS Posted March 28, 2021 Author Posted March 28, 2021 Mandy Layne has done an excellent job rebuilding a once down Russell team, who hadn't won region in a long time until we won in 2016.
