All State Baseball
That was quick, hopefully no one blinked. Post season basketball in the bluegrass is here. It's been a fun wild ride this season, especially in the 14th region. With that said, let's take a look at the post season preview. 53rd District (at Letcher County Central): March 13-15. March 13th: 5 PM (1) Knott County Central vs. June Buchanan. March 13th: 7:30 PM (3) Cordia at (2) Letcher County Central March 15th: 7 PM Championship. (1) Knott County Central has dominated the district, going 4-0 but two of those wins were by just a narrow margin. Letcher County Central upset the Patriots in the championship game last season at Alice Lloyd College, can the Patriots repay the favor?. (2) Letcher County Central is riding high as defending 53rd district champions but they've struggled this season. Can they find magic and repeat as 53rd district champions? (3) Cordia has struggled this season but have been within striking distance of the district's top two teams. (4) June Buchanan has a long, long way to go to upset the favorite, Knott County Central Patriots. 54th District (at Perry County Central): March 13-15 March 13th: 5 PM Buckhorn at Perry County Central March 13th: 7:30 PM Hazard vs. Leslie County March 15th: 7 PM Championship Hazard: The Bulldogs have dominated, not only the district, but the region as well. Only scary part is, Hazard only defeated Leslie County (they're opening round game) by 4 earlier in the season, granted it was at Leslie County. Outside of that, no other team in the district has come even close to touching the Bulldogs. Leslie County: The Eagles have struggled greatly this season but they have a win over Perry County Central and have played Hazard (the favorite) to within 4 points. Do they have what it takes to get the job done and pull off one of the biggest upsets in 14th region history? Buckhorn: The Wildcats own a victory over Perry County Central already this season, can they make it 2-0 and send the struggling Commodores home for the season? Perry County Central: The Commodores are 0-3 this season but now it's post season, can they right the wrong? 55th District (at Wolfe County): March 15-16 March 15th: 6 PM (2) Breathitt County vs. (3) Jackson City March 16th: 6 PM Breathitt County/Jackson City winner at (1) Wolfe County (Championship) (1) Wolfe County: The Wolves are 2-0 in district play and have won both games by a lot, 57 points to be exact. (2) Breathitt County: The Bobcats are always a tough out when it comes to post season play, this season shouldn't be any different. (3) Jackson City: The Tigers are gonna need a miracle to beat a team that beat them by 34 earlier in the season. 56th District (at Estill County): March 15-17 March 15th: 5:30 PM: (4) Powell County at (1) Estill County March 15th: 8 PM (2) Owsley County vs. (3) Lee County March 17th: 7 PM Championship (1) Estill County has dominated the district, winning 5 games (One game with Powell didn't get played) and all by double digits. I can't see them getting beat on they're home court. (2) Owsley County: The Owls and Bobcats meet for a third time this season, Owls won both but by slim margins. (3) Lee County: The Bobcats finally got out of that dreaded 4th seed and have a great shot at getting back to the regional tournament. Also, the Bobcats have played the Owls very, very close twice this season. (4) Powell County: The Pirates have had one of the most horrific season in a very long time. They've only won 3 games and have lost all of they're district games. My Predictions: Winners: 53rd: Knott County Central 54th: Hazard 55th: Wolfe County 56th: Estill County Runner-Ups: 53rd: Letcher County Central 54th: Perry County Central 55th: Breathitt County 56th: Lee County
The Professor
Good review. The only district that might be a toss up is the 55th. But Wolfe is led by a senior class that’s experienced. Breathitt is young, but very good. Also the district is at Wolfe and home court is always an advantage.
