And just like that the season is coming to a close with just one week left in the regular season. Let's take a look back at week 9 in the 14th region.

1) Hazard (18-4):   Previous Rank: 1

This Week: 3/10 vs. Breathitt County

After the loss last Saturday to South Laurel, the bulldogs bounced back and picked up two wins this past week, cruising past both Buckhorn and Owsley County fairly easy. Defeating Buckhorn 88-36 and Owsley County 84-58. As of now, Hazard will finish the regular season on Wednesday against Breathitt County, this will be the first and only meeting between those two teams this season.

2) Knott County Central (12-7):   Previous Rank: 3

This Week: 3/9 vs. Floyd Central

The Patriots dropped their lone game last week, falling 69-63 to Betsy Layne (at Prestonsburg). That was their first game in almost two weeks.

3) Wolfe County (11-9):   Previous Rank: 2

This Week: 3/9 vs. Pikeville (Location TBA), 3/10 vs. Bath County

Wolfe County split two games last week, falling 82-67 to Martin County but defeating Leslie County 60-53. Leslie County was a late pick up for the Wolves after a COVID-19 cancellations with Bracken County. Wolfe County needs to get things going, they've lost 2 of they're last 3 games.

4) Breathitt County (15-5):   Previous Rank: 4

This Week: 3/8 vs. Letcher County Central, 3/10 at Hazard

After dropping 3 of they're previous 4 games, Breathitt County picked up two straight wins last week, defeating Buckhorn 81-54 and Lee County 80-43. Is this the re-start of the momentum the Bobcats had or was those two wins just an illusion?

5) Estill County (11-4):   Previous Rank: 5

This Week: 3/8 vs. Nicholas County, 3/9 at Menifee County, 3/11 vs. Model

Engineers are starting to get hot at the right time. Estill County defeated Owsley County 57-30 on Saturday to run they're wins streak to 5 straight games. Can they keep up the momentum or will one of the three teams on the schedule this week slow down the train?

6) Leslie County (9-10):   Previous Rank: 7

This Week: 3/8 vs. Bell County, 3/10 vs. Wellspring Guardians (Richmond KY Home School)

Leslie County starting to get hot. The Eagles took two out of three games last week, defeating Letcher County Central 75-62 and Cordia 84-76 but falling to Wolfe County in a dandy, 60-53. If the Eagles can keep this up, they just may find themselves upsetting Hazard in the first round.

7) Letcher County Central (10-9):   Previous Rank: 6

This Week: 3/8 vs. June Buchanan or at Breathitt County. KHSAA Shows both teams for same date.

Letcher County Central also took two out of three games last week, falling 75-62 to Leslie County but defeating LIGON COGO Home School 100-47 and Owsley County 71-56.

8 ) Perry County Central (6-12):   Previous Rank: 8

This Week: 3/9 at Southwestern

The Commodores split all 4 games last week, defeating both Owsley County 72-59 and Cordia 77-51 but falling to both Harlan County 62-42 and Martin County 73-70. This has been a season to forget for the Commodores. With the season winding down, can they get things going and make a run or will they be an early out?

9) Buckhorn (8-14):   Previous Rank: 9

This Week: 3/10 vs. Cordia, 3/11 at Owsley County

Wrong turn for Buckhorn. With the three straight losses last week, the Wildcats have now lost 6 of they're last 8 games. Not a good sign at all.

10) Cordia (8-12):   Previous Rank: 10

This Week: 3/9 at Owsley County, 3/10 at Buckhorn, 3/12 vs. Owsley County, 3/13 at Letcher County Central (53rd district tournament, 1st RD)

The Lions continue to struggle as they have dropped 3 straight and 5 of they're last 6 games, not a good sign especially with they're district tournament starting on Saturday.

11) Owsley County (7-7):   Previous Rank: 11

This Week: 3/9 vs. Cordia, 3/11 vs. Buckhorn, 3/12 at Cordia

The Owls have now lost 5 straight games. The good news is that they have a chance to win a game or two or maybe 3 before the 56th district tournament begins.

12) Lee County (9-13):   Previous Rank: 12

This Week: 3/8 vs. Jackson City

The Bobcats went on the road last week and defeated Powell County in Stanton for the first time since 2012/13 season. That would be the only win they would get last week as they would drop they're next two games, 80-43 to Breathitt County and 62-48 to Morgan County.

13) June Buchanan (10-9):   Previous Rank: 13

This Week: 3/8 at Letcher County Central, 3/10 vs. Jackson City, 3/11 vs. Powell County, 3/13 vs. Knott County Central (at Letcher County Central 53rd District Tournament 1st RD)

The Crusaders have rallied for three straight wins, two of which were against the same team, LIGON COGO Home School 66-56 and 68-66. The other win was a 56-42 win over Jenkins.

14) Powell County (2-17):   Previous Rank: 17

This Week: 3/8 vs. Phelps, 3/9 at Bath County, 3/11 at June Buchanan.

The Pirates have struggled greatly this season, this includes double losses to Lee County, that hasn't happened in a long, long time. The good news for the Pirates, they defeated Williamsburg 81-68.

15) Jackson City (2-9):   Previous Rank: 15

This Week: 3/8 at Lee County, 3/10 at June Buchanan, 3/12 at Burgin.

The Tigers suffered another loss this past week when they fell to Phelps 82-44.

16) Riverside Christian (0-11):   Previous Rank: 16

This Week: N/A.

Rams season is over. Was over on February 9th.

Hazard and Knott Co are the main two teams in 14 th region. Breathitt Co and Estill Co have both played a very weak schedule and Wolfe Co still has discipline issues.
