Mustang
We certainly seem to bring out the best in everyone. Going in I felt that we could be competitive, and it wasn't out of the question that we might come away with a win. Seven first-half 3-point goals later and we faced another sizable halftime deficit at 36-19. Stephen Verst and David Govan accounted for 16 of our 19 total points, while the Camels got good balanced scoring from five players. Garrett Beiting lit us up for 14 first half tallies that included four 3-pointers. Again, similar to Thursday night versus St. Henry, we made a run in the third quarter that saw us close the gap to seven on two occasions and outscore the Camels 14-9 for the period. This was a bit of a trend last year, where the chasms weren't as deep, and we often rallied to win in the second half. Without Ethan Eilerman (graduated) and Carson Schirmer (injured), this unit does not have that capability. Camel Sophomore Aydan Hamilton led all scorers with 22 points and Senior Garrett Beiting finished with 19. Mustang Junior big man David Govan led the Mustangs with 20 and Senior Stephen Verst with 18. For their efforts Hamilton and Verst were named their respective team's Players of the Game. With the win Campbell County now trails the Mustangs 12-11 in the history of the Crosstown Classic, and have won three of the last four. The now 4-4 Mustangs begin a five game home stand extending over the next two weeks. Hopefully, playing in the friendly confines of the SyDome will yield better overall results for our Mustangs. Campbell County improves to 5-2. 1
