BluegrassPreps.com 14th Region Week 2 Review

Featured Replies

We've made it through week 2 of the 2020/21 season. We've seen up and downs from across the 14th region. Did anything change from last week? Let's take a look.

* District Games.

1) Knott County Central (4-1):   Previous Rank: 1

This week: 1/18 at June Buchanan*, 1/20 at Cordia*, 1/23 vs. North Laurel

The Patriots entered last week 4-0 with one game on the schedule. Knott County Central would see their undefeated streak come to an end by the hands of Belfry 67-60. The Patriots shouldn't have much of a problem with the two upcoming district games with June Buchanan and Cordia to begin the week but when they host North Laurel on Saturday, they will have their hands full.

2) Hazard (4-2):   Previous Rank: 3

This week: 1/18 vs. Cordia, 1/23 at Owsley County

After two straight losses to open up the season, the Bulldogs have countered it with a 4 game win streak. Wins include; 66-58 Wolfe County, Powell County 80-38, Buckhorn 81-60 and Perry County Central 58-48. 3 of the 4 were on the road.

3) Breathitt County (4-1):   Previous Rank: 4

This week: 1/19 vs. Buckhorn, 1/22 at Wolfe County*.

Breathitt County had two games on the schedule for last week but was able to play only one due to the game with Perry Central being canceled due to Covid-19. The game they got to play they had a long way to travel as they went to Bethlehem. It wasn't pretty but the Bobcats were able to leave Bardstown with the 49-47 win.

4) Wolfe County (2-3):   Previous Rank: 2

This week: 1/19 vs. Perry County Central, 1/22 vs. Breathitt County*

The Wolves suffered two losses last week, falling 66-58 to Hazard and 67-58 to Woodford County (at Lexington Catholic). Wolfe County barely missed it being 3 straight losses when they edged out Estill County 56-54 in overtime. Wolfe County will have two big challenges this week.

5) Perry County Central (0-3):   Previous Rank: 5

This week: 1/18 vs. Leslie County*, 1/19 at Wolfe County, 1/23 vs. Bell County.

Commodores continue to struggle as they fell 58-48 to Hazard last week to extend their losing streak to 3 games. Can the Commodores get things turned around this week?

6) Leslie County (2-2):   Previous Rank: 6

This week: 1/18 at Perry County Central*, 1/22 vs. Buckhorn*

The Eagles started the season off 2-0 but have lost two straight. They fell 58-53 to Knott County Central on the 9th and 81-69 to Clay County on the 14th. Can the Eagles regroup and change things this week?

7) Estill County (2-2):   Previous Rank: 8

This week: 1/19 vs. Trinity Christian, 1/22 at Powell County*

After starting the season off 2-0, Estill County has dropped their last two games, falling 56-54 heartbreaker in overtime to Wolfe County and North Laurel 89-59. Estill County will look to regroup this week. Both opponents are combined 0-3.

8 ) Buckhorn (3-2):   Previous Rank: 7

This week: 1/19 at Breathitt County, 1/21 vs. Letcher County Central, 1/22 at Leslie County*

The Wildcats split their games last week, defeating Cordia 77-72 but falling to Hazard 81-60. It doesn't get any easier for the Wildcats this week.

9) Letcher County Central (2-2):   Previous Rank: 9

This week: 1/19 vs. Phelps

The Cougars were able to get one game in this past week, 31-point victory over June Buchanan 69-38 before Covid-19 Cancellations hit.

10) Cordia (2-2):   Previous Rank: 10

This week: 1/18 at Hazard, 1/20 vs. Knott County Central*, 1/23 vs. Shelby Valley

Cordia continues to struggle against the regions top teams. Can they find a way to change that this week?

11) Owsley County (2-2):   Previous Rank: 11

This week: 1/19 vs. Lee County*, 1/22 vs. June Buchanan, 1/23 vs. Hazard

The Owls lost their district opener last week to Estill County 45-34 but bounced back with a district win over Lee County 64-61. Can the Owls pick up another win and defeat those same Bobcats this week when they host Lee County?

12) Lee County (3-4):   Previous Rank: 13

This week: 1/19 at Owsley County*, 1/21 vs. Phelps, 1/23 at Jackson City.

The Bobcats have rallied to win 3 of their last 4 games after starting the season off 0-3. Can they keep up the hot streak?

13) Jackson City (0-1):   Previous Rank: 14

This week: 1/19 at Jenkins, 1/21 at Riverside Christian*, 1/23 vs. Lee County.

The Tigers were finally able to get their season underway last week but it didn't go as plan as they fell and fell hard to LIGHT (Danville KY) (Home School) 63-46.

14) Powell County (0-2):   Previous Rank: 12

This week: 1/19 at Harrison County, 1/22 vs. Estill County*

The Pirates have lost both of their season opening games last week. Falling hard, really hard to Hazard 80-38 and a 53-47 loss to Williamstown. Can the Pirates somehow manage to get things turned around this week? Especially on Friday when district rival, Estill County comes to town?

15) June Buchanan (1-5):   Previous Rank: 15

This week: 1/18 vs. Knott County Central*, 1/19 at Riverside Christian, 1/22 at Owsley County.

The Crusaders losing skid has reached 5 straight games. All have been blowouts and4 of those 5 losses, they have been held under 40 points per game while their opponents have scored 54+ points.

16) Riverside Christian (0-4):   Previous Rank: 16

This week: 1/19 vs. June Buchanan, 1/21 vs. Jackson City*

The Rams have lost 4 straight to open up the season. It may not get any better for the Rams as the season goes along.

PCC hasn’t won a game, how can they be #5 in region?
