South Oldham vs. Spencer County Predictions/Updates - CANCELLED

South Oldham opens their 2021 season at home against Spencer County on Wednesday in a key early-season 8th region matchup.

South Oldham (22-9 in 2019-20) finished as the 29th district champs and the 8th region runner-up last year, stunning Walton-Verona in the semi-final round of the 8th region tourney.

Spencer County (17-14 in 2019-20) lost in the semi-final round of the 30th district last year.

Both teams were ultimately sidelined by eventual 8th region champ Anderson County.

Spencer won last year's matchup, 72-62.   The Bears hit 56.2% from the floor and four players reached double digits - Alyssa Hitch 22 points (5 of 7 on threes), Bayleigh Ennis 14 points, Lexi Runion 11 points, and Ashleigh Jones 11 points.   All four players return.

South also had four players in double digits in last year's game, but only two return.   Sierra Kemelgor, who will run point for South this year, led the way for the Lady Dragons last year with 19 points, and Meagan Chen had 11.    Both return for this year's squad.

The game will also be the first broadcast for the Pegasus Sports Network this 2021 basketball season.   Live video coverage begins at 7 pm ET with the pregame show on www.pegasussportsky.com.

CM - I thought Oldham County schools had to join the JCPS experts and delay their season for (at least) a week.  Can South Oldham girls play on Wednesday?

Oldham rarely acts in lock-step with JCPS....

The game, however, is NEXT Wednesday, not tomorrow.   Oldham schools did delay one week after the rest of the state; the Oldham schools start play on Monday, January 11th.  The game is on the 13th.   Sorry; I left off the actual date on the original post.   Got in a hurry, I guess.

With the number of schools' teams shut down, for much of the state it appears that 1/4 was a pipe dream, anyway.

Game CANCELLED.

Make-up uncertain.   Oldham County Board of Education announced today that the schools will remain on NTI, instead of coming back to school next week on Monday, January 11th.

They also announced that all HS sports scheduled for 1/11 - 15 are cancelled
