"The Battle for the Barrel"

All eyes in Carter County will be fixed on the events that transpire in Olive Hill tonight. Both the Comets and Raiders are coming off successful seasons last year and both programs are intent on continued growth.

West Carter features one of 2A's most underrated talents in running back Leetavious Cline, plus a host of returning starters from last year's district championship team. In last season's clash, Cline went off for nearly 200 yards and 3 TDs rushing, plus a punt return for a score and a pick-six.

East Carter might be lacking that one go-to player like Cline, but coach Tim Champlin is laying a solid foundation in place, and should have several players ready to step up and fill important roles. With about 90% of last year's offensive yardage from this game now gone, those unknown players will have to step up sooner rather than later.

The Raiders won last year's meeting, 39-34. They also lead the overall series 30-19.

I really think West will probably win but have go with my Alma Mater the Raiders.

This is the 50th "Battle for the Barrel". According to West Carter coach Daniel Barker, tonight's winner gets to keep the old barrel forever. Starting over with a new barrel next year, I guess?

With what West has coming back from last year's game, which was ultra competitive to the end, I'd give the Comets the clear edge going in. Hoping for another classic, though.

I really think if they are starting a new barrel next year the team with most wins all time should get the first barrel. That may be because I know who has the most wins by a pretty decent margin. lol

It's hard to picture East coming back from this deficit. They haven't really threatened West with anything tonight.
