Paintsville is coming off of a 11-4 season and the 1A runner-up trophy in 2019. They return senior QB Jake Hyden, who is back for his fourth year as starting quarterback for the Tigers. In the previous three seasons, Hyden has racked up 4,239 yards and 46 TD's passing, and has rushed for another 1,556 yards and 21 TD's. They also have RB Zach Thompson back as a senior, as well as their top two wide receivers from 2019 in senior Karsten Poe, and sophomore Harris Phelps. The Paintsville defense gets back 8 of its top 10 tacklers from last season.

East Jessamine had a solid 9-3 record in 2019, but exited the 5A playoffs in the second round with a 24-24 loss to Madison Southern. The Jaguars offense was hit hard by graduation, with their quarterback, their top three rushers, and their top two receivers all moving on. East Jessamine was a very run-heavy team in 2019, with a scant 409 yards in the air last season, so it will be interesting to see what has developed in the offseason with the promotion of senior Connor Darby into the role of QB. On the defensive side of the ball, the Jags return 5 of their top 10 tacklers from last season.

Last year's game was a 41-35 home win for Paintsville, and no doubt East Jessamine is looking to send Painstville home with a loss this year when the Jaguars kick things off with the Tigers at 7:30pm in Nicholasville.

I think Paintsville wins by a much wider score this time around. Too much production gone from East Jessamine's offense for me to think otherwise.
