Oldham County vs. Grant County Predictions/Updates (8th Region Semifinals)

Pre-tourney favorite Oldham County survived a first-round scare from Woodford County before prevailing, 59-53. The Colonels got their wake-up call and survived to talk about it, something countless favorites before them have had to do. Now that the Colonels' attention has re-focused, what do their odds look like to reach the finals?

Oldham got some terrific second-half play from senior point guard Stephen Votaw and center Xander Wagner-Rose to put away a pesky Woodford squad late. Defense ultimately carried the Colonels; Oldham trailed, 27-25, at the half, but largely shut down the Yellowjackets late, and kept Hunter Penn from roaming freely in the second half as he did in the first.

Grant County built what appeared to be an insurmountable 15 point advantage over Gallatin County in their first-round matchup, only be nearly undone by a ton of turnovers late (11 as I recall). But Grant held on - never surrendering the lead - and put the game away late at the line.

These are two teams that shoot the ball pretty well, particularly at the line. Luke Dawalt inside for Grant was pretty quiet in the opening round; he'll be challenged by Tyler Slone and Xander Wagner-Rose for OC in the paint.

Critical for Grant to avoid foul trouble; the Braves are really a 6-deep roster, which could prove problematic against an Oldham team that wants to go 100 mph for 32 minutes. How Grant fares against the frenzied pace, and whether the Braves can avoid foul trouble will be key to Grant's chances of pulling the upset.

For Oldham, it will be interesting to see if district star Deaton Oak bounces back after a so-so game against Woodford.

This should be a very fun game to watch; if you can't make it (or would like to watch it again later) go to The Pegasus Sports Network - PSN. Pegasus Sports is working with the Henry County A-V club and is excited to present a video presentation that includes 3-4 cameras bringing you the action. Enjoy!

Oldham's a decided favorite in this one, but the Braves have a roster full of shooters. The Braves' offense vs. the Oldham defense is the matchup of the night.

Grant has to shed the turnover bug that hit them against Gallatin in round 1.

Grant with 9 turnovers, but Oldham's shooting has been so-so; the Colonels haven't capitalized.

Grant hanging around when teams who are supposed to win are in a tight game or fall behind that rim can sometimes get small. We shall see.
