South Oldham goes for their first region 8 title since 1998....

Anderson trying to get back on top of the podium for the first time since 2014...

 

South has been playing very well of late ....the Lady Dragons have won 6 straight and 15 of their last 19 games.... Leading scorer Brynna Blackburn is one of the top three point shooters around, hitting 78 of 216 threes on the season....Skylar Sahatjian, the lone senior on the roster, is a four-year starter at PG and the settling influence on the team... Sierra Kemelgor, a sophomore guard, has exploded offensively in the post-season, winning the 29th district MVP award and averaging 17.5 ppg in the first two region contests, including 20 in the SF win over Walton-Verona. Kemelgor is averaging 18 ppg and nearly 7 rebounds in post-season play. Makaila Bowlden has been a beast on the glass, averaging 9 boards in four post-season games, including 12 boards against Walton-Verona. 8th-grader Ella Morrison has played well above her years, averaging 8.3 ppg during the tournaments. South has three players averaging in double figures and a fourth - Kemelgor - averaging 9.9 ppg.

 

Anderson County is fresh off a major win over one of the top teams in the state, a solid - and convincing - 45-35 victory over Simon Kenton in the first round of the tourney. The Lady Bearcats have won 8 in a row and 18 of their last 20. Besides SK, the Lady Cats own victories over such formidable opponents as Mercy, Franklin County, Owen County, Bardstown, Walton-Verona, and Mercer County. Only one player - Amiya Jenkins - is averaging in double figures (15.9 ppg), but five players are averaging between 7.5 and 16 points per game. Anderson features a lot of size/length and an incredibly athletic team. They can play fast or they can play "power", whichever the occasion calls for. Jacie Chesser off the bench is a load few teams can handle on the inside. Anderson shoots the ball well as a team, hitting nearly 48% from the floor overall, over 35% beyond the arc, and nearly 70% at the line.

 

This should be a dynamite game between two teams hitting their stride. Hopefully, Brynna Blackburn of South will be back in action; the junior went to the sidelines in the final minutes of the win over Walton-Verona after hitting her head on the court and did not return.

Have had the pleasure of seeing SO several times this season. They are a fun bunch to watch. I haven’t seen AC live, but I’ve got to wonder if their physical play will bother South. I think it will be a good game but giving the nod to AC.

Anderson Co has a lot of weapons and a stout defense. I’m going AC by 15+.

AC has allowed less than 30 points in 3 of 4 post-season games...

 

South is shooting nearly 48% in the post-season and averaging 66 ppg in those four post-season games.

 

Tiffani Riley and Sophie Smith have had good tournaments for AC....Sierra Kemelgor is averaging nearly 18 ppg in the post-season for South.
