North Oldham vs. Anderson County Predictions/Updates

Anderson County (14-4) had a tough week last week, suffering their first two-game losing streak of the season as their schedule toughened. The Bearcats lost by 15 to Woodford County and by 8 to Gallatin County, and scored just 34 points against the Yellowjackets. The Bearcats will try to get back on the winning track this week, and they start things off on the road against the North Oldham Mustangs, who are fresh off a rout of the Shelby County Rockets on Saturday.

 

Defense has been Anderson County's trump card this season; coming into last week, the Bearcats let the state of Kentucky in fewest points allowed per game at just 41 ppg.

 

North Oldham (9-8) is still learning how to win consistently without star point guard Justin Powell, but the Mustangs have the ability to score both inside-out, and Tyler Higdon has been averaging nearly a double-double since Powell was lost to injury. Of late, Rico Carr-Cole has come into his own as an offensive threat; the sophomore tied for team-high in scoring against Shelby County with 13 points.

 

North hasn't won back-to-back games since before Christmas; they will try to solve the Anderson County defensive puzzle and get a big win on Tuesday.

This should be a really good game. I'm leaning towards picking North, but the Anderson defense will likely keep it close.

 

Mustangs are 9-8 on the year; Anderson County is 14-4.

North Oldham 50.8% FG shooting (#3 in Region 8) vs. Anderson County defense (allowing 42.3 ppg, #1 in Kentucky).

 

Who shoots the Free throws best? North just 61.9% at the line and Anderson just 57.0% at the line. Worse (for Anderson), they attempt just 13 FTs a game. Gallatin beat the Bearcats last week in part because they hit fourteen more free throws.
