January 6, 20206 yr Much has been stated over the years about the Patriots' "Institutional Knowledge" of opposing defenses. Bill Belichek is no doubt a football genius, but if he were to leave for another job...do the playbooks and all printed records of that "Institutional Knowledge" go with him? Or does it all belong to the Patriots and he leaves literally empty-handed? If Josh McDaniels or any OC leaves for another job, do they get to take their plans and plays that they developed with them, or do they have to develop and brand new playbook from scratch? How about their gameplans for opposing teams?
January 6, 20206 yr Well...there's THE playbook that has the team's logo on it and everything...and then there's the bootleg copy that the coach has at home. One gets turned in...the other? What other one?
January 7, 20206 yr Author I've seen photos of coaches offices with dozens and dozens of 3inch binders on shelves. Those contain scouting reports, game plans and playbooks...I doubt coaches have duplicates of all of that at home. Of course with everything going digital, it's probably all on a tablet now.
