Will Tomorrow's Holy Cross-Collegiate Game Determine A Spot In The LIT?

Featured Replies

It appears that Friday night's Louisville Holy Cross-Louisville Collegiate game may have more importance than most regular season games, as it may decide which team gets invited to the upcoming Louisville Invitational Tournament and which team is left out.

I in no way profess to understand the intricacies of the Seth Rankings, the rankings used to determine the sixteen teams from the Sixth and Seventh Regions that will play in the LIT. But as reported by Nate Bryan on Twitter, the current rankings have Collegiate in the 16th spot with an 80.5 rating and Holy Cross in the 17th spot with a 79.75 rating. Again, I'm not sure exactly how the rankings work, and both teams also have games on Saturday that might affect the rankings, but tomorrow's game certainly looks like a play-in game.

Both Holy Cross and Collegiate are having great seasons and sport identical 9-2 records. Holy Cross has beaten Fairdale and Iroquois, among others, while Collegiate has wins against Anderson County (Anderson County's only loss so far this season), Clinton County, Iroquois, and Western. Up until 2018, the LIT had a 20-team field, and both Holy Cross and Collegiate would make a 20-team field. But the field was reduced to 16 teams last year, so unfortunately it looks like one will make it and the other will not.

Good luck to both teams.

I don’t know how SETH ratings work but winner of this game will be in better position. I’m not a fan of SETH ratings.
