Class 2A

 

It is a huge week in Class 2A with three games pitting Top 10 teams against each other. Lloyd Memorial pulled away from Newport in the second half to set the stage for a huge clash against NKY powerhouse Beechwood for District 6 supremacy. Murray's goals of unseating Mayfield must first start this week against Caldwell County. The main event though will be in Lexington as LCA will host Somerset in an absolute must watch match-up. Not only will the winner take the driver seat in the district, it may be the win that helps lock in a 1-seed overall in the RPI.

Outside of the top 3, maybe 4, I can't see anybody else winning the state championship this year. I think we'll see if Somerset and LCA belong in that group after Friday night.

For as much heat as they have deservedly taken for their schedule, Breathitt County is still a wildcard that deserves monitoring.

 

We won’t know what they really have under the hood until the 3rd Round, but I can say with 100% certainty they do have something.

 

CA Collins is easily a top five player in the Class and maybe even the top player in 2A, they have some great individual pieces and are playing with a ton of confidence.

 

I definitely don’t want to write them off but they are truly a mystery left to unravel.

 

Just that schedule and District.... I truly have no way to handicap what they can do at the LOS or on Defense until we see a team with a pulse.

Breathitt County may have something, but how will that something do in a game against Mayfield, LCA, or Somerset?
