February 27, 20197 yr Some have a chance and seeing wintry precipitation this weekend. Snow and freezing rain accumulations are possible. First the GFS it has the snow starting early Sunday morning then ending early Sunday evening. The GFS-FV3 has the wintry precipitation starting a little later Sunday morning and lasting to early Monday morning. First, let me say these are for information purposes only and are not an official accumulation forecast. Just a snapshot in time showing what the models are showing now. The GFS The GFS-FV3 I will update as we get closer. We'll have to wait an see if the amounts are true.
February 28, 20197 yr Author The models continue to show snow coming to parts of Kentucky this weekend. They still differ on the amounts though. First the GFS. It is showing most of the snow falling north of the Cumberland Pkwy. The following radar is from 1 am Sunday morning to 7 am Monday morning. Here is what it is showing for snowfall accumulation totals. Now for the GFS-FV3 which will be replacing the GFS. This is for the same time period as with the GFS. It comes in showing heavier snow totals. Please remember that these are now official and probably will change between now and when the event happens. I may be able to start getting a read on this tomorrow morning. Everyone take care.
March 1, 20197 yr As someone who is just getting over a nasty cold, I am not looking forward to the cold that is coming on Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully I'll be over this thing by then.
March 1, 20197 yr Author There is still some disagreement among the models about how much possible snow accumulations we may get this weekend. First the NAM. It has most of the heaviest snow accumulations north of I-64. South of there mainly light accumulations if any at all. The GFS has most of the snow south of I-64 with the heaviest in western Kentucky and in portions of Kentucky east of I-75 and south of I-64 in eastern Kentucky. The GFS-FV3 model has all of Kentucky getting some snow and it shows much heavier possible accumulations than both the NAM and GFS. So everyone can see that it is still too early to call for snow accumulation. Hopefully, they will come into good agreement later today. Check back for updates
