Arizona seeking approval for high school Open Division playoff system

 

Arizona is looking at going to 8 team open division playoff with top teams from 6A, 5A, and 4A.

 

Certainly would have been interesting with Male, Scott County, South Warren, and Covington Catholic in a 4 team format.

So the open division teams would have their own playoffs while the rest of the teams would still compete in the 6a, 5a, 4a playoffs?

 

Is that what this is trying to say or, would the top 6 teams just meet up after the playoffs for another tourney?

Article says they will use Max Preps rankings for top 8. Apparently 6 of teams would have came from 6A. There was a concern that the 6A playoffs would be watered down, so looks like they would still have a 6A champ that didn’t make open division playoff.
