I think a ranking of 3 is fair for these Wildcats. The first 3 weeks will be a great assessment with games against Campbell, Highlands, Boone, and Conner. They may be undefeated at that point.

 

However, here are some question marks:

 

Do they have 5 players that can hurt you?

Cooper and CCH both do.

 

Can they play defense in all 5 spots?

Cooper and CCH will.

 

Will they play as a team or will it be street ball? Team ball will win the 9th.

 

Do they have any depth to overcome foul trouble or injuries? The reigning champs from the past two years both do.

 

And let's not forget coaching ...

 

Newport lost a few close games last year which I suspect will fall in their favor this season. Looking forward to watching them!
