Pelosi's team

Featured Replies

Below are the biggest reasons for moderates and conservatives to vote for their Republican House of Representatives candidate on Tuesday. These are some of the people who, if Democrats gain control of the House, will be setting the legislative agenda in the House of Representatives for the next two years. Naming left wing Democrats, not to mention a crook like Alsee Hastings, to chair some of the most powerful committees is not in this nation's interests.

Does anybody really want an impeached (and removed) federal judge chairing the Intelligence Committee?

What about naming a party hack to chair the Judiciary Committee who believes that President Bush stole the 2000 and the 2004 election? Do we need a conspiracy nut chairing the Judiciary Committee?

Barney Frank is one of the most capable Democratic legislators in the House, but should a man who played an even unwitting host to a gay prostitution ring be elevated to the position of Chairman of the Financial Services Committee?

If you currently pay federal income taxes, are you in favor of extending the tax cuts that are in effect, or do you agree with Charley Rangel that you are not paying enough?

Pelosi's Team will include:

Alcee L. Hastings (Fla.), Chairman of the Intelligence Committee- Before being elected to the House, this man was impeached and removed from his position as a federal judge for conspiring to take a $150,000 bribe in exchange for giving light sentences to two convicted swindlers. A low credit score is enough to disqualify most Americans from gaining a top security clearance, but a man who has already been convicted of conspiracy to take a bribe will chair the Intelligence Comittee? Do I hear a bid?

Rep. Charles B. Rangel (N.Y.) - Ways and Means Committee - Sponsored a bill to reinstate the military draft and then voted against the measure when Republicans allowed a floor vote on the bill.

Rangel's accession to the chairmanship of the committee would likely end six years of tax cuts by the Republican- controlled Congress. He said he ``cannot think of one'' of President George W. Bush's first-term tax cuts that merit renewal. He also said no discussion would be possible on overhauling Social Security until Bush dropped a plan to create individual accounts funded by payroll taxes.

John Conyers Jr. (Mich.), Judiciary Committee chairman - One of the most partisan left-wing liberals in the House. Best known for his steadfast defense of former President Clinton during House impeachment hearings, he is one of the nut cases who believe that President Bush and the Republicans stole elections from both Gore and Kerry.

Representative John Conyers, Jr., the Ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, asked the Democratic staff to conduct an investigation into irregularities reported in the Ohio presidential election and to prepare a Status Report concerning the same prior to theJoint Meeting of Congress scheduled for January 6, 2005, to receive and consider the votes of the electoral college for president. The following Report includes a brief chronology of the events; summarizes the relevant background law; provides detailed findings (including factual findings and legal analysis); and describes various recommendations for acting on this Report going

forward.

We have found numerous, serious election irregularities in the Ohio presidential election, which resulted in a significant disenfranchisement of voters. Cumulatively, these irregularities, which affected hundreds of thousand of votes and voters in Ohio, raise grave doubts regarding whether it can be said the Ohio electors selected on December 13, 2004, were

chosen in a manner that conforms to Ohio law, let alone federal requirements and constitutional standards.

Barney Frank (Mass.), Chairman of the Financial Services Committee - A gay activist who is one of the most articulate and effective Democrats in Congress. This is also the man who denied knowing that his roomate was running a gay prostitution ring out of his home.

When I look at the Dem lineup, I think of that bar in the movie Star Wars...

All this is scary stuff, which of course you won't hear about in the media...

Mark Foley sending improper e-mails is splattered everywhere and he is forced to resign in discrace, but you don't hear a peep about the gay prostitution ring run out of Barney Frank's house? Personal lives aside, I can't understand how anyone can go for these people's policies. Sadly, most people don't do the minimum amount of checking to find out what these people are about, and they sure won't find it broadcast on tv or radio...

Notice how all the GOP supporters can do is try to scare people by making outlandish predictions of what the Democrats will do when they take over the House? The funny thing is, they believe this made up stuff is more frightening than the real life disaster wrought on the United States by an unfettered Bush presidency and Republican-controlled Congress.

I don't think the American public will buy it, either. Nice try, though.

The list that I put together is based strictly on seniority on the committees. Nancy Pelosi has assured her colleagues that she will stick with tradition when naming committee chairmen. The Congressional Black Caucus will insist that Hastings be named to chair the Intelligence Committee despite his criminal background.

Now if you want to point out something that is "made up," then please do so. If you don't find the notion of having a crooked judge who was caught in a bribery scheme named to head the Intelligence Committee a frightening prospect, then all I can say is that you don't scare easily.

Nice try? LOL not trying to do anything but point out their record. You can look at someone's record and have a very good idea where they stand. These people's records are what they are. They can't hide from it. That's why you don't hear much about it. What is it about any of these people that's in dispute, or you are disputing?

I'm disputing the prediction here that they'll be running the show after the election. Pathetic scare tactics, if you ask me. Well, the electorate will also be looking at the record of the Bush administration and that rubber-stamp Congress to get an idea where they stand and I bet they'll vote for some accountability in the halls of Congress for a change.

I wonder if this Pelosi would have voted to go to Iraq.
Unlike many other Democrats, Nancy Pelosi's opposition to the Iraq War has been consistent. As a representative of the Bay Area, that was probably reflective of the position of the majority of her constituents. I vehmently disagree with Pelosi's political philosophy, but she has a backbone that many other top Democrats are missing.

Interesting post/observation, Landshark. That list reads like a Who's Who from Hell.

What is there to dispute? The tradition in the US Senate has been to give Senators Committee assignments based on seniority. The people who I have listed are the senior Democrats on their respective committees. Nancy Pelosi says that she will follow the tradition of elevating senior Democrats to head the committees.

This isn't football. Everybody knew who the committee chairmen would be when the Republicans took over the House in 1994 and everybody knows what will happen if the Democrats take over after Tuesday's elections. Do a Google search is you doubt the accuracy of the list. Barring a death or unexpected election defeat (and everybody listed is running in a heavily Democratic district), the list is what it is. There may be an outcry from Republicans over Pelosi naming Alsee Hastings chair of the Intelligence Committee, but the Congressional Black Caucus has let it be known that they will not sit by quietly if Hastings is passed over for simply trying to take a $150,000 bribe back in the 80's.

Looking on the bright side, the only person that I listed who will actually be an effective chairman is Barney Frank. Rangel is a media darling, but unless Democrats take over the Senate, he will get nowhere repealing Bush's tax cuts.

That's pretty much my take on the situation as well. If the Dems take the House and the GOP holds the Senate, then look for 2 years (at a minimum) of basic gridlock. However, gridlock is not always a bad thing.:D

Nancy Pelosi as Screecher of the House is scary enough. I never even considered her appointments.

Even if Dems by some miracle get a small majority in the Senate, those people complaining about a lack of vetoes out of Bush will be able to complain no more.:thumb: Dems shouldn't by any means have enough votes to override vetoes.
