Male 48 PRP 21

Featured Replies

Final

PRP came out considerably more fired up than in their first game and Male was flat in the first half. Male had at least four of the mysterious substitution infractions in this game. Can someone explain to me how a team that has played nine games this season can get called several times for doing what they have been doing since the beginning of the season? I think St X was hit with multiple 5 yard substitution penalties in the 4A final last year, too.

Good win for the Dawgs!!! They needed a eye opener to get them focused on winning State.

How did Beaumont do?

I said PRP would be more of a challenge than thought of

Are you saying that they've been playing with 12 players all year?:D

That would explain why their offense is so potent, wouldn't it? But I've got to think the officiating crew was administering the rule a little differently in this game, and not that Male was doing something different in the way they sent players in and out of the game.

Beaumont had 173 all-purpose yards and 2 TDs. Five different Bulldogs (Beaumont-2, Hobbs-2, Frye-1, Williams-1, Hayes-1) scored last night and Male intercepted PRP four times. Here is the game story and linescore from the C-J:

The fact that officials all call things a little differently (even if they should not) plays into this. Alot of officials familiar with certain teams will "allow" a few "minor" infractions to go uncalled. A player leaving the huddle a little late running to the sideline is common when playing locally. Officials from out in the state calling games here in Louisville seem to jump on that call as they well should.

This may be for another thread but related to your question is the playoff system to keep down the travel expenses for the teams still had 64 officiating crews driving to a different region all over the state. Your question about called differently last night than the regular season is valid. First of all, I am not saying worse or better, just different. I saw tighter 25 second clock management in the X-Manual game.

I can submit that different associations interpret the rules so they can stay consistent. The Jefferson, Bullitt, and Oldham County games are assigned by Bobby McGrath, former NFL referee and current NFL replay official. Different associations may interpret the Illegal Substitution rule differently. Watch for the the break of the huddle and see if the offensive team breaks the huddle with 11 while a sub is running on the field. This crew may be calling it stricter than the KFOA usually does.

Male sleep walks throught the first half...wakes up, and takes care of business......Good Luck.

I wondered about this myself and lo and behold...there was no mystery to it...I talked to Asst. Coach Williams and asked him about this....Male apparently had "packages" of personnel for certain situations on both offense and defense they had put in this week and Williams stated that there was poor communication on the sidelines between position coaches about who was supposed to be in and when. Williams said that during halftime and after the game Coach Redman was livid at his players for not paying attention to the game so when a "package" was supposed to be in...players were on the bench, at the other end of the sideline, etc. It was obvious during the 1st half their minds were not in the game.

A couple of things I also noted about the game: QB is having trouble throwing deep passes (usually they were way short).

Defense played NO safeties for the most of the game and PRP took advantage of the one on ones they had at receiver. #44 of PRP made some good catches but just not enough when they needed it.

Despite jumping up 21-0 in the 1st Qtr, Male obviously lost their focus and composure when things started going PRPs way. It didnt appear to me that any adjustments were really made at halftime...but a butt chewing from Redman just got their focus back.

Lord knows their focus had better be there this Friday or X will take advantage early.

Look for the 2nd match up to be even more of a barn burner than the 1st game.

Good stuff, TigerDude13. I noticed too that some of Gainey's long passes were underthrown. Can't do that against a good zone secondary like St X.
