You know what though, Hearsay. When you made your earlier post, it was right on the money. At that point in time, I was ready to take the escort's word for it, but as you pointed out, it was only fair to Haggard to give him the benefit of the doubt.

 

Now that a little time has passed, I think it's safe to say that Jones will almost certainly be shown to be telling the truth.

Because despite the holier-than-thou stance they take toward all those who don't agree with them, they are still human, with human demons to overcome.

 

Personally, I find the irony absolutely delicious when these finger-wagging types who rail on about "family values" and "sin" go out and commit just the infractions they're condemning everyone else to hell for.

I cannot blame you, or anyone for enjoying a good comeuppance wrought from hypocrisy. Your feelings of satisfaction are not unusual.

 

What makes this especially sad for me—aside from the more obvious reasons—is the fact that family values do indeed need to be encouraged and supported. Sin should absolutely be avoided at every turn.

 

The fact that so many will point to a flawed man like this as justification for avoiding involvement in the church, or with God, breaks my heart.

 

The accuracy or relevance of the message should not be directly linked to the credibility or strength of the messenger. The fact that an active alcoholic speaks out against drunkenness and driving under the influence may indeed be hypocritical, but it does not undermine the veracity of the message. Spousal abuse is wrong, even if a wife beater says so. Drug abuse is wrong even if a crackhead speaks out against it.

 

For some strange reason, there are those who must become entangled in destructive acts before they fully understand why they’re truly destructive and should be avoided.

 

This man needs church now more than ever. He certainly has no business leading at this time, but he most definitely needs to be in the arms of the church. I’m certain those charged with determining an appropriate course of action will judge wisely.

 

All that being said, this is very sad indeed.

In the last week, Haggard has driven more people away from Christianity than he ever brought to Christianity. I believe the megachurch concept is destructive in that its leaders appear, quite obviously, to be much more concerned with power and money than with anything else. If you doubt this, just listen to a few of them.
