The Tomcats (2-0) rallied from a two score halftime deficit last week to defeat Raceland in a battle of #3’s. This week they travel to Charleston (WV) to take on the George Washington Patriots. The Ashland/GW series has been a very competitive one, with the Patriots holding 4-3 edge dating back to 2011. GW is always among the better teams in West Virginia, and this year looks to be no different. They beat the Tomcats 14-7 at Putnam Stadium a year ago.

I think this game will be a good barometer of how good this Tomcat team is this year. They absolutely destroyed Harlan County, but struggled against Raceland. Ashland has yet to show they can run the ball this year, but have shown they can score quickly through the air. GW usually has a really good team, and their QB has already committed to Marshall. Going on the road against a quality opponent is always tough, especially when it's an out of state team. Hopefully Ashland will have Isaac Caines back this week. He is another WR with speed to burn, and will be another big threat for the offense. I'm not going to try and make a prediction, but hopefully the Cats will come home with a win.
