Last year's meeting in Bowling Green sent these two teams in opposite directions. South Warren was victorious on their home turf en route to a 7-0 start. Hoptown on the other hand, began 2017 on an 0-4 skid. Expectations are sky high for both of these squads, each among the most talented in WKY.

This is an intriguing game. If Hopkinsville can add a ground attack to this year's team they will be really good offensively. Defensively they are solid up front but young in the secondary. If they can avoid giving up the big play I wouldn't be shocked to see them pull this off. I know their coaching staff is determined to have a better start to the season as compared to a 1-6 start last season.

Don't know a whole lot about South Warren but would expect them to be favored in the west of 5A or at least right there with Bowling Green.

If you're going by looking at last year and what returns, it should be easily South Warren. But when Craig Clayton has his players playing his kind of ball, his teams are never really out of it because of the attention to detail in their gameplan. The growth of Hoptown was crazy fast last season, but South Warren was still on another level.

I do not know how much Hoptown has improved, so I'm gonna go South Warren in a good one. Spurrier is still a top QB in the state and the Tigers have questions in the secondary. Clayton's teams usually peak in Novemeber, but getting this win in week 1 will be a scary thought for opposing coaches in 4A with them being ahead of schedule.

South Warren 31

Hopkinsville 27
