Summer after our 6th grade, me, two buddies of mine and their little brothers were dropped off at Big Bone Lick campground where we pitched a tent, for the weekend. We had a canoe, and a little fishing boat with a 9.5 evinrude pushing it, with us. We got there Friday afternoon about 4, and did not get picked up till Monday at noon time. Had a little camp stove and coolers for drinks, and all our camping gear. Great time

Shoot, I didn't even think about boating. I grew up on Lake Erie. From the time my brother was 14 and I was 12, we used to navigate the lake and go fishing all the time. Even all the way up near Canadian waters around Middle Bass Island fishing for small mouth.

Obviously we had to get permission to take the boat out and let our parents know where we were going, but it was pretty common for 14-16 years old boys to run the lake where I grew up.
