Somerset 14 Harlan 7

Hey Briar Jumpers! Someone please educate the Somerset newspaper folks about the new playoff scheme. They have the Jumpers as district champs, which of course isn't crowned until after 2nd round of playoffs.

Pappy, I actually sent a couple of emails in to the sports department about that and they emailed the KHSAA and found out that they are in fact going to give a trophy for the regular season winner as well as the winner of the 2nd round playoff game--at least for this year. What they did not get clarification on however, is who will be listed in the KHSAA archives as the district winner(s). Supposedly it wasn't explained adequately enough to the coaches and after a lot of public outcry the KHSAA caved and decided to reward both winners--displaying their normal ineptitude.

:thumb: I think that is appropriate. Congrats to the Jumpers. Its no small feat to sweep the district 2 years in a row.

It has been a good run but the ones that really matter start this week. Cumberland played Harlan to a 7 point game so obviously they are capable of beating the Jumpers on a given night and either the Jackets or Dragons could do them in if they get to the 2nd round. The emotion and unpredictability of the playoffs is why I like football so much. (On a side note in my earlier post where I said I felt Somerset was 21 points better than Harlan I meant last night, I felt like Somerset stopped themselves a couple of times. I hadn't seen Harlan play before and your post talked like they had a terrible game offensively-both on execution and planning so it sounds like a possible rematch could be another dandy. No offense to the other two teams but I'd really like to see another matchup between these two in the 2nd round with good playing conditions and both teams firing on all cylinders.)

Cumberland is worrysome. They have great athletes, though they are undisciplined. If they listen to their Coach, who is very good, they are capable of a lot. If they (especially Washington, their "star") play to their capability, they could be hard to stop. They are very self destructive though at times. Yes, our offense is a little schizophrenic, one night click, click , click, and the next thud thud thud. Our QB has the talent, but only 1 year of real experience, so that accounts for some of it. Not being any kind of guru, I can't tell what happens tell you the truth. They had opportunities galore last night but couldn't cash it in.

We had our opportunities last night as well, if both sides cash in on all of their opportunities, this game just has a higher score with Somerset still coming out on top.
