June 26, 20188 yr Almost the entire state of Kentucky is in a Marginal Risk Area for scattered strong to severe storms on Wednesday. With breaks in cloud cover on Wednesday, it appears that this could become sufficient for scattered strong thunderstorm development during the late afternoon and evening hours. At peak intensity, some of this activity could become severe. Potentially damaging wind gusts appear the primary hazard, but one or two tornadoes might not be out of the question.
June 27, 20188 yr Author Most of Kentucky except the area mainly south of the Western Kentucky Parkway is in a Cat. 1 Marginal Risk Area for scattered strong to severe storms today. A Cat. 2 Slight Risk Area will cover parts of Western South Central and Southern Kentucky. This area as I mentioned is south of a line from around the Western Kentucky Parkway to about the I-75 corridor. Those in the cat. 1-Marginal Risk Area could see isolated severe thunderstorms. These will be limited in duration or coverage. These are mainly a damaging wind and hail up to 1" events with a low risk of tornadoes. Those in the cat.-2 Slight Risk Area could see scattered strong to severe storms. These storms could be short-lived or not widespread. Isolated intense storms will be possible. The area covered by a Slight Risk Area could also see 1-2 tornadoes reports of strong winds/wind damage and hail as large a 2". After the showers and thunderstorms this morning additional storms are expected to develop around midday or early afternoon along and south of a front located over the Ohio Valley. These storms will be moving in a southeasterly direction. It appears that the conditions will be favorable for the development of multicell storms and storm clusters capable of locally strong to damaging wind gusts. This is the simulated NAM 4km radar from 8 am till 8 pm EDT today. This is the EHI centered around the 2 pm EDT time period. It shows the conditions prompting the cat. 2 Slight Risk Area for parts of Kentucky. With all of the rainfall parts of Kentucky has received there is also a Flash Flood Watch out. Be weather aware later today. I will update around midday. Also follow our Twitter page for quick updates throughout the day. Edited June 27, 20188 yr by nWo
