Lawn products for yards with dogs

Featured Replies

The threads about mowing and mower blades got me thinking. My yard has various weeds that grow in it annually. What are some good products to use fight the weeds while still leaving the yard safe for my dogs to run through? Any one have any suggestions?

I use Scott’s products in my backyard where my dogs run. I use the liquid version. Once it dries, I’ll let the dogs out. However, I’ll give it a day before letting them out for a prolonged time.

Because of my free range chickens I make my own. I dissolve 1 cup of salt into 1 gallon white vinegar and then add 1 good squirt of dish detergent (at least a tablespoon), mix it up and use my sprayer. For me it works as good as Roundup (takes a little longer) and doesn't kill my birds.

I'll have to make a stop to the store and have a look at the Scott's products. My yard looks like it has every weed known to mankind growing in it.

How much of the yard are you able to spray with that amount of mixture? I don't have a huge yard but it is a corner lot so there is extra lawn to try and clean up.

This isn't something you would want to spray on your entire yard correct? I took his question as looking for a like a weed and feed type product that won't kill the grass. Might be wrong though.

Yes this will kill everything. Do not use it for weed and feed.

To be honest you'd really have to over do it to harm dogs and such by putting weed and feed down. If you follow the directions on the bag for the amount that should be put down based on square footage you're not going to harm any animals or your lawn. If you over do it you're more likely to kill your lawn than your pet.
