Remarkable first half for Oldham senior guard Andre Brewer. With Gibson a big focus of the South defense, Travis Henderson and Christian Harper both on the bench with two fouls (both sat part of the first period and all of the second period), and sixth man Branden Dewitt limited in minutes due to an injury, Brewer gave Oldham the offense they needed not only to keep up with South, but stay ahead.

Brewer's 24 first half points almost matched South's team score.

At one point in the first half, Brewer hit six consecutive threes. A 27% three point shooter coming into the tournament, Brewer has the ability to shoot the long ball, but had not been consistent this season in that regard. Last night, though, he was lights out. I don't shot chart during the broadcast, but if my memory serves, he hit three off the left wing, one from the left corner, one from straightaway, and one from the right wing.

Congrats to both teams on a hard fought game....

The offenses ruled the first half, which ended with Oldham County up by 8 at 46-38. Since HS games frequently have more points scored in the second half....well, a 100 point night didn't seem out of the question (keep in mind, South had scored 95 the night before in the SF win over Anderson)

But both coaches got their defenses in gear in the second half, and a total of only 17 points was scored in the third, with Oldham winning the frame, 9-8, to head into the final period up 9 at 55-46. South cut the lead to 2 in the third, but never got over the hump, and Oldham got two big baskets late in the third from Travis Henderson. For South, all 8 third quarter points for the Dragons came from Devin Young, who had another remarkable game.

But, even as the fourth quarter began, South appeared done. Really hard to put a finger on it, but the South players appeared tired, and Oldham appeared to have caught their second wind. The Dragons would score just one FG in the final 8 minutes, and Oldham would win pulling away, outscoring South, 16-10, in the final frame.

Travis Henderson of Oldham County - held to just 3 points in a foul-plagued first half - scored 10 points in the final 10 minutes of the game (approx.) and finished with 13 points 9 rebounds.... While South was struggling in the fourth (1 of 11 shooting), Oldham hit 7 of 14 fourth quarter shots.

Oldham finished 25 of 60 shooting 41.7% 9 of 19 from beyond the arc 47.4% 13 of 17 at the line 76.5%

South finished 19 of 49 from the floor (only four FGs in the entire second half) and 5 of 18 from beyond the arc. South matched OC at the line, going 13 of 17.

A key stat was the glass: Oldham dominated the backboard, 31-22, including 17-5 in the second half.

Turnovers were a near wash: South 9 Oldham County 7

Andre Brewer 24 points, Zach Larimore 15 points, Travis Henderson 13 points / 9 rebounds, and Matthew Teague 9 points led Oldham.....

Devin Young of South Oldham led all scorers with 28 points, and Luke Morrison had 15 for South. Sam Beard had 8.

It was an exciting game in front of a large, vocal crowd. Kudos to both teams on strong seasons, and best of luck to the Colonels as they represent the 8th in Rupp.

Oldham's Jackson Gibson scored his 1,000th career point in the 8th region tournament, and Zach Larimore scored his 1,000th career point for Oldham in the championship game versus South.

Congrats to both young men.

Congrats to OC. I truly believe they were the best team in the 8th. Good luck at state.
