Pius gets 1 practice a week for 90 minutes. And about 40% of those are canceled due to school or religious conflicts. Example 6th grade has practiced 4x since October.

Wow really... Do you feel that this is an issue? Whats more important playing a bunch of games or practice?

Once. They’re already going 5 days a week as is, so they get weekends off.

But is this playing 3/4 games a week with limited practice time? My point is how will kids get better, more games or more training/practice time?

We generally only have 2 games a week with the occasional 3. However, we’re talking middle school coaches, so practices aren’t really that beneficial.

Seems like a bunch of coaches these days are forced to coach, aka teachers...

Just there to collect a pay check, not for the love of the game and to coach and teach...

There are some good and some bad. Coaches just don't want to deal with parents anymore, so you lose all your good ones. Plus, with games starting at 5:00, it makes it hard for someone with a full time job to coach.

For sure it’s an issue for majority of teams there. The Pius teams who do very well through the years and this year are ones who have played 50-100 AAU games together. So if a new coach with a new system isn’t going smoothly due to lack of practice. They just go back to what they do in AAU

I think practice is very important.

One other quirky thing with Pius 6th grade that probably hurts their practice time is that their kids play both "A" team and on a Pius rec team. So they are playing on two teams within the same school therefore practicing one day a week with each different group.

It’s silly for sure. 2.5 PSL Games a week and one practice. 1 game and one practice for the “ blended” teams

Add in 6 tourneys between both and adds one day a week on average. That’s averaging 6 Days a week. Then they play Aau with a game a week. So yes they are playing a lot of basketball. 3 teams with 3 different coaches.
