Sacred Heart over NDA 2 Games to 1

Featured Replies

Big crowd in Park Hills. First game was a barnburner won by SHA. 2nd game was a relatively easy win for NDA. 3rd game relatively easy win for SHA.

Observations from someone who doesn't see a lot of v-ball:

Could NDA's Senior Night be any longer? Has it actually ended yet? Thank goodness there were only 7 seniors.

Are there any girls who have the vertical jumping ability of the Staverman girl?

I am continually amazed at the jumping ability and the sheer power of females today.

Is it unusual for a team to have 12 players ON THE BENCH?

NDA's Senior Night was not that long. The girls deserve the recognition they got. There is no half-time like in basketball, football and soccer. The loyal fans that are there game in and game out enjoyed the night. If you don't like senior nights don't come to the NDA/St. Henry game on Thursday. It's St. Henry's senior night that night.

Nicole has more than just a good vertical. She works hard to be the player that she is. She reads the court so well which helps to make her the exceptional player she is.

It is unusual to have 12 players on the bench. Assumption and Sacred Heart like to carry up 6 JV players to sit on the Varsity bench. I personally think it's an intimidation issue. But, considering the level at which these two teams play, there are probably many times they use these players against weaker teams just to give them the varsity experience.

Wow. I just re-read my post to make sure I didn't say anything about the girls not deserving the recognition. Its a talented bunch of girls on the floor and off as evidenced by some very high GPAs.

IMO the poem part was a bit much. Some things should be done at the team banquet. It was also a bit much considering the game was already an hour late and the other team had a 90-minute drive home. But, hey, I'll defer to the everyday ND supporters. I've seen other Senior nights(including sports without a halftime) and just thought this was a bit overboard. However, if the girls enjoyed it, that's all that matters, right?

Should I assume she'll have a chance to play D1? If so, will she be a "front line" player or will her height be a problem?

One more question: Do all teams rotate 12 or 13 girls in like NDA did?

I've been attending NDA senior nights for at least 15 years and the poems are part of the NDA tradition for senior night. Some of the players welling up with tears while reading the poems to their senior teammates shows how awesome a relationship these girls have with each other. Notre Dame is about tradition, just like those Colonels across the street. ;) But, you should already know that. :D

I do know about tradition. I just don't necessarily like all traditions. But I'm sure I'm in the minority on this particular tradition.

Give me your thoughts on the game and my question about Staverman and D1.

I went to a handful of volleyball games last year, and Nicole was always one of the favorites to watch because while not being overdominantly tall, she has a huge vertical, and can smash the ball.

As for D1... I would think height would come in to play, but who knows.
