Why isn't Plus/Minus a bigger stat in basketball?

 

Everyone gets all hyped up about Triple/Doubles but if Player A has a triple/double and while he is on the floor his team is outscored by 10 (Minus 10 for Player A) and they lose by 4 doesn't that say something?

 

Or say Player B and Player C have similar stats in a game.......10 points 5 rebounds 3 assist but Player B is Minus 5 and Player C is a Plus 8 while on the floor shouldn't that be significant?

Still somewhat misleading and doesn't give a picture of an individual's contribution.

Each team has 5 players on the court at any given time. The +\- might be a better stat for the combination of players used? I'm a fan of defensive stats as well but just harder to to track some of them.

Offense sells the tickets and defense wins the game.

Gortat had a +34 recently. He had 6 points and 7 boards.
