The Professor
If Leslie hits three pointers and free throws like they did in this game then they're going to be hard to beat in the tournament. They rained 3's from everywhere, and missed 2 foul shots, and I don't have the stats but I would think they shot somewhere around 25-30 attempts. Great shooting team. Owsley cut the lead to 11 points with about 4 minutes left in the game but Leslie stalled the ball and the Owls were forced to foul, which was as good as gold for 2 points each time they went to the line for the Lady Eagles. Leslie's press was effective in forcing turnovers, and the way the 15th region refs allowed for physical play on defense it worked in Leslie's favor. There was quite a bit of bumping and slapping in the press with nothing called. That was a disadvantage for Owsley, particularly with them playing two 8th grade and small guards for much of the game. Ironically both 8th graders fouled out. Owsley's junior 6' forward Macie Gibson, who came into the game averaging 29 ppg, finished the night with 39 points. But Leslie was too balanced and too accurate with their shooting to allow Owsley back in the game. They're a very good team.
The Professor
After tonight's game Gibson finished the season with a 30.3 scoring average. I'd have to research some records but I'm almost certain that's the highest scoring average of any Lady Owls player in history.
