January 3, 20179 yr Since both of the weather models(NAM,GFS) are in good agreement this morning I'm going to go ahead and post about the possible winter weather on Thursday. Snow looks to move in overnight Wednesday or early Thursday morning. It should move eastward across the state and end by Thursday evening. For now, total accumulations look to be 1-3". The heaviest amounts look to be from around the I-64 corridor northward. With a dusting to 1" south of that area. I'll post an update this evening. Nam GFS

Albany 330 PM EST Tue Jan 3 2017 /230 PM CST Tue Jan 3 2017/ ...First Accumulating Snow of the Season Likely Thursday... Confidence is increasing that the first widespread accumulating snow of the season will come to portions of southern Indiana and central Kentucky Thursday and Thursday night. At this time, 1 to 2 inches of snow is forecast with the potential for localized 3 inch amounts. The greatest chance for this accumulating snow is across southern Indiana and north central Kentucky, however slight changes in the track of the weather system could result in shifts further north or south. This snow could result in negative travel impacts to motorists, especially during the morning and evening commute times. Research incorporating traffic accidents and winter precipitation show that the first accumulating snow of the season typically results in a higher frequency of accidents. Please stay tuned to the latest forecasts. I'll update later this evening.

January 3, 20179 yr Author The models are going back and forth for now. The NAM is showing pretty much what the GFS was showing this morning and the GFS is showing what the NAM was so I'm not going to change anything as of yet. I might change some things with the next update in the morning. FYI the accumulation totals may go up some especially in southeastern Kentucky if the modeling trends continue.
January 4, 20179 yr Author Since this looks to be our first significant snow accumulations of the winter I'm going into a Winter Weather Threat Mode. I'll be starting a new thread.
