Male 41 Ballard 14

Ballard started out with spunky defensive play and really bottled up Male's inside running game, but a couple of perfectly thrown 60+ yard TD passes to Josh Williams put Male up 21-7 in relatively short order.

Ballard's offensive series to end the first half left me dazed and confused. With about 1 minute left, Ballard had the ball at about midfield. They ran several handoffs up the middle (burning time and burning up the Ballard faithful in attendance). With about 7 seconds left and the ball around the Male 45, the Bruins overthrew a fade pass to a receiver in single coverage. One second on the clock in the 1st half. Ballard lines up with two receivers on the right and almost incredibly, Male isn't in a prevent defense. They have single coverage on the two wideouts, and the DBs are only about 2 yards off the line of scrimmage. The outside guy runs a streak route, then breaks open on a post pattern and catches a TD pass after time elapsed. Of course, the Ballard side went nuts because the score became 28-14 going into the locker room. The only thing I can figure is that Redman wanted to test his secondary (test failed). The most rudimentary prevent would have snuffed Ballard's scoring chances.

Beaumont appeared to hurt his left ankle early in the 3rd, but walked off the field with some help. He didn't return to the game before we left with about 10 minutes in the 4th. We were sitting on the Ballard side, so I couldn't see them working on him but I suspect he will be OK. Male has a week off coming up before travelling to Owensboro on the 22nd.

A lot of other Bulldogs hauled the mail tonight. Wide Recevier Josh Williams is a stud, catching TD passes of 56 and 83 yards in the first half and running for a 19 yard TD in the 3rd. Male running backs DeJuan Hobbs and Jarred Frye also had huge nights running the ball.

I'm guessing that Vic Anderson takes advantage of this less than stellar outing by DB and really pours it on in tomorrow's televised game against Highlands to vault ahead in the Mr. Football race. Look for a big day for number three.

I hope Doug mends quickly.

Williams is a stud, kind of a shame from the Crimson point of view to see the son of 2 Manual alums starring in purple and gold.;)

I know he plays WR and punts, is he still playing DB too?

Heres ' hoping that D.B. gets well soon .

Hey bulldog fans , how is the Heyman kid doing?

This type of thing is as old as the rivalry itself. Sons playing for the rival of the father's alma mater, players becoming coaches for the "other side", brothers squaring off against each other, etc. That's what makes the rivalry great! :thumb:

Heyman is doing very well in the defensive backfield. He plays defensive back or safety, and his 6'3" height is a great advantage.
